Help me...trying to conceive for past 18 months

by TP1359, Feb 28, 2007 12:00AM
Im wondering if someone can help me.  My fiance and me have been trying to conceive for the past eighteen months.  I have had breast milk since the birth of my son (nearly 8). Ihave not been ovulating as my prolactin levels were high, so a specialist started me on Bromocriptine around 6 weeks ago.  I havent had a period for six weeks also.  Are my hormones adjusting, causing me not to menstruate?  Im not pregnant.  How long does it take for bromocriptine to kick in, and does it supress my periods?
Also, my moodswings have been unbearable to my fiance, is this possibly the effects of my hormones coming back in line?
Please help me.  All responses will help.  Thanks so much.

i'm not really up to date with all the different drugs, but I think it may have something to do with the lactating.  My friend had a baby a few years back and breast fed for like the first two years.  During that time she had no period and could not concieve to save her life.  When she went to the doctor he said that some women who lactate don't ovulate.  I don't know why or how.  So maybe it could have something to do with that. well i hope this helps you some.

Hi--I do not know anything about the medicines, but all I can advise is to pray.  I know all of this can be hard, but praying for the strenth to get through it helps.  Stay positive!

TP - I think it probably would be wise at this point to call your doc and say your period hasn't come yet,  because it seems like it should have if you were on the right dose of drug.

And mention the mood swings - it's hard to tell  from your post whether your fiance is just really sensitive to your swings,  or if they are severe and problematic.

Best wishes.

Anyone out there that has been on bromocriptine (parledol)to restore fertility? Would appreciate some stories on experiences with the drug?
Thanks again readers.

Have your doctor also check your thyroid levels (Specifically TSH, Free T3 and Free T4 levels).  I had a similar experience, but they found the thyroid issue and ovarian cysts for me.
