abnormal ultrasound

by beelou, May 25, 2007 12:00AM
at 22weeks of pregnancy i had a routine ultrasound. everything seemed fine until a genetic counselor pulled us into his office. he mentioned that the ultrasound showed that my baby boy had a dialated ventricle of the brain. he went on to say that this could mean that my baby has downsyndrome or i could be carring a virus that has done this to my baby. he suggested an emergency amniosentesis. witch we did the next day.every test that they have done has came back normal, but the ultrasound still shows the abnormality of the brain (dialated ventricle). what does this mean? is my baby going to be ok? what should i expect after birth? does this mean anything? could a fall or me being active could of caused this???

You probably need to discuss this further with your dr & genetic counselor. The amnio, from what I understand, is a sure diagnostic for down's syndrome. If it is normal, I would say you are safe as far as that. However, I don't know what other conditions could still be present that would not show on an amnio. I am so sorry you are going through this. It must be so hard for you. ((hugs))
