Hypoglycemic Toddler? Anyone have one? I might ... need to compare symptoms Please help.

I think my son who will be 3 in august may be hypoglycemic. He's had a couple "episodes" that have caused me concern and tomorrow we are going to get some blood work done. I often give him healthy snacks and drinks between meals just to be on the safe side. The first time this happened he had the same symptoms as he exhibited today at the beach:
The shakes
Slurred speech
Lethargic
Sleepy
Pale
Cold limbs

On a regular basis he is a BIG sweater. Even at night when his room is cool from the A/C he is drenched with sweat.

Today he was more active then usual and in the sun, but he took breaks like the other children and ate/drank when they did. Why was he the only one who "crashed"? I'm very concerned he may be hypoglycemic based on what I've read online.

I would sincerly appreciate any feed back those may have on the subject.

Also felt important to mention that when he did start to show symptoms I sat him down and quickly forced juice and snacks and he "came around" after 20 or so minutes and was fine the rest of the day. Of course I was a wreck and will continue to be!

I have an 11 yo and asked the doctor about this when he was 8 or so.  He would get shaky, agitated, nauseated, and sweaty if he hadn't eaten in a while.  (I think he was like this when he was younger, but it became more obvious when I stopped carrying snacks with me when we went out.)  My pediatrician said, "Sounds like he might be hypoglycemic...carry healthy snacks and don't let him go too long between meals."  He did run some blood work, but if I remember correctly, he was not testing for hypoglycemia--he checked his thyroid and cholesterol levels.  They were fine.  It only happens occasionally now--I think he just learned to eat when he would start to feel weird.

I'd take your son to the pediatrician to make sure that's what it is, though.

hi , those are all syptoms of dehydration too , my  5 yr old son had the same and he  was dehyrated even though he drinks about 1 1/2 ltr a day .but he only gets it in the summer  but he gets the sweats in the winter too . x x

I am hypoglycemic and have been since I was7 or 8 and that does sound like symptoms.  I can always tell when it is about to happen to me because I will start seeing spots and they get bigger and bigger until I can't see anything and pass out unless I eat when I feel it coming on.  They will probley ***** his finger and check his sugar level but that is not a good indicator unless he is having a spell when it is checked.

Thanks everyone. I took him to the doctor this a.m. and then to the lab for a blood work up. Guess we'll know more once that comes back.
