Post Circumcision Swelling

I had a circumcision last Monday. All appeared well but during sleep I've woken with pain from erections, last night was the worst, several times. After bathing today I've noticed an area where the suture is loose, the skin is puffed out somewhat and that area hurts. Also the shaft just beneath the penis head appears more swollen now than before, toward the base it appears normal, the swollen area is rigid to the touch, although not painful. I am going to call the Dr. tomorrow (not sure if the office has Saturday hours), but my concern is whether this is an emergency type problem. Monday is a holiday, and if I do have a major problem waiting until Tuesday would make things worse. If anyone can help, or has ideas how to reduce sleeptime erections, (I've tried sleeping on my side in the fetal position), I would be most appreciative. I will never take this organ for granted again. Thanks.

what does everyone mean by "swelling"? I got a circ a week and 2 days ago and what's bothering me is the massive pink swelling "ring" in between the cut-line and the head. It's large enough that it's covering the back of the penis head. Is this normal swelling? or huge bloating? because everything else seems to be healing including the pain except this large pink ring...

How long ago were these entries? They seem to meet my concerns exactly. I had my circumcision three weeks ago. The doc bandaged me up nicely but put on a surrogate "foreskin" made up of bandaging with a hole to **** through at the end, which seemed silly as you never hit bullseye. So I noticed that as the stitches started to dissolve (though I think one knot seems to still be there, not sure what it is), on one side I also had a swollen area and when I looked down the shaft by rolling back the remaining skin it looked very bloody and rather like a black hole. Went to the docs and he said that it looked infected and put me on the anti-biotics, so it is starting to look much cleaner and on the way to recovery. I think the wet bandaging in the first few days after the op lead to the growth of bacteria, as if it was a baby's nappy. I am keeping it clean by soaking it in salt baths twice a day. And now I will just wait for a week and see how it is looking. Maybe go back to the doc for another check up. I had the op done in Germany. I am going to the doc here in the UK for the follow-up. I will be glad when it is all back in working order!

I miss my foreskin. I miss having an erection that didn't hurt. I miss not being scared to look at my neighbours wife's sister's underware on the clothes line. and above all, I miss those visits from my ex-girlfriend.

Four days after my circumcision I can only pray that I heal faster than quickly. On day two my urine smelt funny. I think i have a urinary tract infction. The surgeon denied any connection between the procedure and the infection, but I believe he may have wraped the bandage on my Penis too hard; so hard that it blocked the urethra, thus trapping urine, which after "going bad" caused the infection. Its the only explanation i have.

One suggstion i know works for those stubborn erections is ICE... lost of ice. Other than that, lather the stiched area twice a day with anti-bacterial soap, rinse with running tap water, change underwear (briefs are better than boxers), Also, do not put your penis in its normal facing-down position. Let it point upwards or to the side to reduce the pressure of the blood on the stiched area.

I did this for my girlfriend. She said its the only way I'll enjoy her oral skills. oh man! just thinking about it... OUCH!!!!

congrats on your circ.  You did the right thing.  One thing. If you have any remnants of stitches remaining, you should have them removed immedialtely or they will leave tunnel marks.  as for problems walking.  buy yourself a pair of compression shorts, or bibylce shorts or helly hansen underarmour boxer briefs. They are made of either lycra, nylon or polyproylene and will hold your penis tight and thus will reduce swelling. If you need further help join either of these two groups.  over 2000 members circumcised as adults.\

I'm 24. I got circumcised 2 weeks back. Initially it was very difficult, with the swelling and the sensitivity of the exposed glans. I had to take a week off from work. I couldn't wear an underwear, as it used to hurt. So I wore shorts, with soft kind of cloth. To prevent rubbing against the shorts and legs, I had been walking with legs spread, as if sitting on an imaginary horse! Lol.. Now swelling has come down considerably (still a small band of swelling just under glans remain, which I guess will go down as it heals more). I've resumed going to office, now wear underwear even though it's a little uncomfortable. At home I don't wear one, I prefer to leave it free so that air gets to the penis :) I'm waiting for it to completely heal!! I'm happy that I got circumcised, looks good and feels good :) Hygiene has certainly improved.. I don't know why some people advise to not get circumcised! The foreskin is actually of no use. It just provides an environment for bacterial growth and retention of urine and dirt which leads to the formation of smegma.(Thats the foul smelling whitish layer which forms over the glans).

I'm 22, i got my circumcision two weeks ago because i couldn't retract my forskin (phimosis). and everything was going fine except i couldn't sleep the first three days, and there was drainage for the first five days, but two days ago the head of the penis turned redish color and got more sensitve, then today i was going pee and it stung then BLOOD! started to drip out of my penis for a bit so i went to the emergency room and they said it was an infection and gave me antibiotics, has anyone else experienced this????? i'm pissed off that no one else seems to be writting about this, i guess it's common to get an infection but i haven't heard anything about blood coming out of the pee hole because of a bacteria infection. i was pretty shocked and thought i was dying at first, i went **** twice afterward at the hospital with no blood coming out, i hope i'm ok, i have to go pee write now actually and i'm tramatized from the first time so i hope i don't bleed, i can only pray to god that it doesn't bleed again and it is just a simple infection that caused it.

Hey evryone
I'm 23 and almost two weeks into recovery the pain subsided after the first 8 days and simply became slightly uncomfortable except the night time horrors that ye also seam to experience.My stiches also seam to be coming out at an uneven speed faster on the top.Can't wait till it's all over. I strongly recomend bathing it with salt water 2 days after the procedure and several times a day oging forward till helped to get rid of the swelling and redness i was experiecning.If like me u don't have a bath don't worry I simply bought a bowl that will be discarded after this treatment adn added two pinches of salt.Hopes this comes in handy

I had my circumcision 4 days ago and I think I'll be happy with the results further down the road, but for right now I'm in nothing but pain.  If I could just walk around naked all day everything would be fine.  I'm not sure if I just had an idiot surgeon or what, but the sutures look like barbed wire and feel like metal and they poke out and get caught on any amount of clothing, which really pulls at the wound.  Has anybody else had this?  Why couldn't they use sutures that were more like thread, not stainless steel???  Once again, I had almost no pain until I removed the bandage, which exposed the sutures

hey guys, Im 24 yrs, and i was circumcised a week ago. The wound seems to be healing,  i was told that i should apply a thin layer of Neomycin topical which is an antibiotic placed directly on the wound 2 times daily, plus it acts like vaseline.The thing is that it stills swelling below the cut and it looks horrible but it doesnt hurt. I decided to see my doctor, and he said that there is nothing wrong with it, it will heal and the swelling it´s normal, but applying ice like twice a day will make it go down faster.
I did as my doc said yesterday and today i seems better. I gonna do this for around 4 more days and see the results.

And try to stay at home for the first 5 days, the sensivity and the spikes of the sutures are the things could make you feel a lot of pain and discomfort, so its better not to walk.

What a lot of horror stories here! I could never understand why men would accept to get circumcised. The foreskin has some important function to serve. Why not leave it do its work and instead suffer all this and alter on top of that the basic characteristics of the glans, if there is not a serious medical condition?

I just got circumcised on jan 30th and it went really well, I was put to sleep during it and had no pain. Even when i got an erection it never hurt it felt tight but never bad pain everyone is talking about.. The only thing is few days ago the dissolable stiches fell out and one side near the back wasnt fully healed and opened up a bit.. got kinda scared cuz there was a 1/2 inch hole where the stiches where holding together but i went to the doctor and he told me everything would be alrgiht.... BUT, if anyone has any other advice on what i should do about the hole that reopened i would LOVE to hear what they have to say... im still not convinced it will be fine.. it wasnt the same doctor that did the surgery... thanks

Uncle Bob;

There's really no sure way to keep from having nighttime erections.  The best method I have found is to be very tired before I go to sleep, even if I have to stay up and work out or something.  Also, I urinate right before bed, because it seems like I get those erections because my body doesn't want me to **** the bid, and an erection will not allow you to do this.

To the rest;

Definitely follow up with your doctor if you are experiencing pain / discomfort past the time when he or she said you would feel it.  DTee, I would go back to the doc to see what can be done to get the sutures removed.

Had procedure 4 weeks ago and although swelling has subsided, the sutures, which I was told would dissolve and drop off, have not. They appear to still be firmly embedded in the flesh.
I feel as though at this stage the cut has joined already and the sutures are a hindrance to the healing process. Some one please tell me am wrong and I do NOT need to see a Doctor to have them pulled out!

I just Got mine done on Thursday, and I would not do it again If I could go back in time. The pain was unbearable. Anyhow, now I have to deal with this ugly aftermath. Haha, anyhow... It has been 4 days now, the bleeding has slowed(no longer dripping) now its oooozing out of the stitch line. I have the same problem with morning erections, I just put ice on it as soon as I feel it. That seems to put the erection away.

Now, My entire penis(except part of the head) is bruised badly, and my skin on my shaft is swolen out very far. It isnt too painfull, but I sure hope there is nothing wrong. How long untill you would expect the swelling to go down some? And the bruising, How long should that last(they said there will be alot of bruising on me because of the emmount of anestetic they used on me). It is not just a little swelling either, It is very large, more concentrated towards the end of my penis though.

My doctor gave me antibiotics, and I am still taking them. So i would figure the chance of an infection would be minimized. I have tried to ICE it but that doesnt seem to help with the swelling.

My Meds are Motrin(800mg), cephalexin(550mg), and some percocet. It is uncomfortable to sleep with because of the rubbing.. Anyone have any advice for this? I take my pain meds before sleep, and I am out like a light.

Respectfully

Hi. I had a circumcision about 3weeks ago. I have got some bad swelling on the side of my penis just below the cut line too. It didnt seem to be healing either & it went infected which the doctor gave me antibiotics for. The only bit of advice that seems to have worked for me to get the cut area around the swelling to heal is by not wearing any trousers or boxers. So far I have had one day of this and it has healed 10times quicker than when wearing, I feel the swelling has gone down a bit (not much) & I have a scab forming already where as this would have usually taken 3days. You have to let air get to the wound & I find wearing tight boxers at night help reduce the chance of an erection & it moving about & brushing any heling skin off. Just percevere, I think it can look worse than it actually is. Everytime I look at my swollen & cut area it reminds me of a sausage in a hot oven that hasnt been pronged with a fork! lol

How is your condition?  Has the swelling gone down.  I had a circumcision about 5 days ago and do not see that it will heal soon.  I have the same rigid swelling under the cut line although I do not feel a lot of pain the cut line, is sensitive to the touch.  I also has a bad bruise on the head of the penis.

I recommend that you apply ice after the circumcision as directed, I think that is where I went wrong.  The cut was not painful with medication but the healing I believe take longer than advertised.  Consider taking some time off work, because you will not only be dealing with the swelling from the cut but you will also have to deal with the sensitivty of the exposed glands.
