U/S of thyroid..Results...malignant?

by Prisslozzi, Apr 20, 2007 12:00AM
I recieved an us of my thyroid for nodules and the results are ; thyroid gland is heterogenous. right measures 3.8X1.8X1.3cm, mid gland is a solid nodule with isoechic with a few anaeochoic spaces suggesting cystic degenration within.  The nodule appears hypervascular and measures 1.1X0.8X1.0 cm. The left lobe measures 3.7X1.5X0.8 cm with a small partially cystic nodule in the mid lower left gland measuring 8X7X4 mm. no evidence of calcifications. The isthmus measures 2mm. I'm a little confused on how to interpret the results and my Dr. appt isn't untill next week. I know what alot of the terminology means, but unclear on wether it relates to malignancy. Please help if you have any info....

There are a lot of us on the patient-to-patient thyroid forum who have had thyroid surgeries, tests, and even thyroid cancer.

My thyroid had only a small, complex cyst (no calcification) but it was suspicious enough for me I had a lobectomy.  Papillary carcinoma.  Three of my four sisters subsequently were also found to have papillary carcinoma.

Your next steps should probably be to find a good endocrinologist and inquire about a biopsy.  The two nodules sound suspicious enough to biopsy.  Please remember that 85-95% of thyroid nodules are BENIGN - my family is just the exception to the rule.

Did you lose your voice before you found out you had cancer? I've been having discomfort and a pulling sensation when i talk, just wondering if i should be worried. The left thyroid lobe is swollen and before i had to stop levothyroxine my levels were normal.
