STD? Male yeast infection or U.T.I.?

by WhatIsIt910, Jan 09, 2007 12:00AM
About a week ago, I noticed the head of my penis was starting to become tender, particularly around the urethra, and felt hot when I urinated.  It also has a more brightly pink/reddish hue.  Then a few days later, I noticed my penis felt like it does after I have sex, when there's still "something in there" so holding the base and squeezing my way up towards the top, a small drop of what I would call "flesh-colored" discharge appeared at the tip.  Now that it's been almost a week since then, every 8 hours or so, there is enough to make a small spot on the inside of my boxers.

I live with my girlfriend, and we have sex probably 4-5 times/week. (but not in the last week)  We have been together for a little more than 2 years and have been completely faithful.

I haven't been to the doctor because I'm waiting for my health insurance to go into effect with my new job.

Could this be an STD that I may have acquired before we were together and has been dormant for this long, only to surface now for some reason?  Or is it some kind of bacterial infection or something viral?

Thanks very much.

It may be a yeast infection.  It does need to be treated with medicine--I don't know if women's yeast treatments will work on men or not---and if you do have sex with your girlfriend you will just keep spreading back and forth between you two and it will keep reoccuring till it is treated.

Thanks for the input, that's kind of what I was leaning towards.  It also itches down deep in my shaft a little bit too, but it feels like it's inside so I can't really get at it.

It doesnt sound like a yeast infection, by any means.  It sounds like it could be NGU (Nongonococcal Urethritis).  The discharge you describe, flesh colored?...could you further describe?  If you meant clear, thats normal.  Some people produce more mucous out of the penis than others (clear sticky fluid).  The redish color you describe at the tip sounds like minor irritation.  Urethritis is possible, and even that is not a life threatening condition.  If it is NGU, which it may be not, you could go on a short bout of antibiotics to clear it up.  It may clear on its own.   Your description doesnt describe anything serious.  Your symptoms are more so noticed because you may be paying more attention to yourself than you need to be.  Either way, if it gets worse you need to see your Gen Prac or a Urologist for a better diagnosis.  The outcome will likely be nothing major at all.

You must see a doctor.  It can be NGU, I agree with Ryan.  If it is a bacterial infection, most likely your girlfriend will need to be treated as well.  You should test for ghonnorrea & chlamydia.

ryn - The discharge is NOT clear.  The color is more along the lines of coffee with extra milk.  The consistency is watery, not thick at all like semen.  And it leaves a little dime-sized crusty spot on my boxers every 8 hours or so.

Spark - Do you really think it could be an STD?  I have only been with the same girl for more than 2 years.  Is there any chance one of us caught something prior to our relationship that only surfaced now?  We will think about getting tested, anyway.

Thanks a lot guys.

Brown discharge is definitely some form of urethritis.  As for the cause, I really dont know.  Probably a bacterial infection.  I would see a doctor about getting an antibiotic prescription.

Generally speaking, any discharge out of your penis that isn't white or clear is thought to be gonorrhea, although I am not a doctor so I can't tell for sure. Get tested, if its gonorrhea, its easily fixable.
