Genetic Counseling/Testing

by Maria07, Feb 23, 2007 12:00AM
I recently received the results from the pathology report from my miscarriage in Dec. It was a chromosomal defect due to Trisomy 13. However it could not be determined if the defect was random or if it came from mine or my husband's genes. So we are going to genetic counseling.

Question: For those of you who have had genetic testing for a miscarriage, how long did the whole process take  e.g how long did it take to get test results?

It took us about 4 weeks to get our results back, but I've heard of some people getting their results back earlier.

Pardon my ignorance, what is Trisomy 13?

Hi Maria,
I am so sorry for your loss. Even I had a miscarriage in march 08 at 8 weeks where the pathology report said it is a triploidy. I never thought of getting the genetic tests done. However, I am getting all the basic tests for chromosomal analysis, HSG, and my harmone levels. Let me know if that genetic tests really helped to determine cause for the miscarriages, I would like to get it done too if it is worth trying.
