worried about ivf med side effects

by carisa, Mar 18, 2007 12:00AM
Hi,
I'm very worried about vomiting or nausea due to my ivf meds. I took my first dose lastnight of follistim and menopur. It went fine, and so far have had no noticable side effects. Would I have had them by now if I were to have them or do I need to take several more doses for that to come. I've always had a fear of vomiting and I'm hoping my meds won't cause this for me. Any comments would be appreciated. Thank you! I know this sounds like a silly fear, but I'm such a worrier.

Hello. I never had any nausea with the IVF med. I had headaches for maybe a day or 2 then went away. But with progesterone, I gained little weight. This time I am doing frozen cycle and have to take estrodial 3 times a day and that does give me nausea for about an hour. Don't worry, I was scared to at first but after being in the program for a week I was fine. Good luck.

During my IVF cycle, I didn't experience any nausea or anything with the Follistim or the other meds I was on.  Now I am still taking progesterone and estrodial and still no nausea.  I'm sure everyone's different, but try not to worry.

Thank you guys, I tend to be a worrier in general. That does make me feel a little better.

Oh, thank you, that is so sweet! I will keep you posted. I don't know yet when my egg retrieval will be. My next doctors appointment is on Thursday, from then on they said that I will probably have to go in every other day to everyday to make sure I am not overstimulated and to check on my follicles/eggs. I'm thinking it will be between March 29-31st. I'm just so excited and nervous at the same time.

What meds were you on and at what dose?

Hi!

I am not having my bloodwork, ultrasound daily yet. Staring this Thursday the 22nd I will be going in daily to every other day for the ultrasound/bloodwork. I'm excited to go in this Thursday to see how my body is reacting to the meds. I am on 200IU Follistim, 75IU Menopur, and I will be on Ganirilex also. This is my first time ever being on any sort of fertility medication so I'm curious as to how my body will react. When they did my baseline ultrasound on Saturday they said I had 11 follicles on one side and 8 or 9 on the other. They said that was pretty good.

I forgot if you said, but is this your first ivf cycle?

Good luck with your baseline tomorrow, that's so exciting!

Hello -- This is my first effort with IVF.  I was taking Gonal F and then Ganirelex and now progesterone in prep for the transfer.  My problem is that I feel terribly dizzy and have ringing in my ears.  This started after about 4 days on the Gonal F and hasn't gotten better (even though I stopped the Gonal F and Ganirelex approximately 4 days ago).  Has anyone else ever had these symptoms?  Do they go away on their own?  I am feeling afraid.  Thanks for any info.
