questions about fetal heartbeats

by spec, Jun 30, 2007 12:00AM
Does anyone know where to find a table for values of fetal heartbeats while in utero?  I went for an US thursday and suprisingly enough, I am pregnant with twins.  I am only 7wks, babies measured 6wks, their heartbeats were 110.  We have to go back for another US next week because they said they would like to see them at least 120.  Does anyone know how critical this is?  I am so ready for this first trimester to be over so that I can stop worrying about miscarriage.  Any advice or info would be greatly appreciated.

Actually they thought I started with twins and dropped to a single because of my HCG levels.  We actually were lucky enough to get pregnant on first IVF try.  We had been TTC on our own for 2 years before seeking infertility help.  We could not have gotten pregnant on our own due to my DH's problem.  Good luck to you too!  You will find out soon!

Try this site: http://www.i-am-pregnant.com/encyclopedia/F/Fetal-Heart-Rate/
and good luck. As far as I know. It will raise until 180, and then reduce to 160 until 40 weeks.

Thanks so much Sibylle.  I have been searching for days for a website with a chart, and it makes me feel so much better knowing that my babies are on target.   I needed that to help me stop worrying.  I know that it's not healthy for me to worry, it's just hard.  Thanks a bunch and good luck to you!

The average fetal heart rate is 100 beats per minute at six weeks, increasing to approximately 170, beats per minute at two months, and decreasing to 140 beats per minute at 20 weeks and 130 beats per minute at term. A normal heart rate is usually considered to be between 120 and 160 beats per minute.  So I think what the doctor is saying is that he/she would like to see it go up to 120, not that it should be 120 now.  I think you are more than fine.  Good luck!

Thanks so much for the info!  I feel much better thanks to all of you.  I will still be anxious for this first trimester to be over, but at least I know that everything is ok.  Thanks for all the info!  and good luck to you!
