granulosa cell tumor

by jessietwo, May 07, 2005 12:00AM
In 2000, I had a hysterectomy due to a granulosa cell tumor contained inside ovary. First I was diagnosed with fibroids so I went a year without surgery. When surgery was done, they found the malignant tumors. One the size of a grapefruit, one a tennis ball and one a golf ball size. It had not spread but was milignant. My question....Should I be getting any certain test to make sure it does not reappear somewhere else and should I be concerned about it reappearing?

Hi,

I am a Granulosa Cell survivor also.  There are not that many of us because this subgroup of the Stromal Ovarian Cancers does not occur that often.  I was dx at Stage 1a--fortunate for me.  I get regular INHIBIN B blood tests.  I also have had several CT scans.  I am two years out with no reoccurance.  The surgery was performed by a GYN/ONC at a teaching hospital.

Ovarian Cancer Network  ovca.net  has a thread devoted specifically to this type in it's Forum area.  Also check out Granulosa Cell Tumor of the Ovary Foundation  www.gctf.org.

Even though you did not say what stage you were dx with, you might want to find a GYN/ONC to have a second opinion/consult even at this late post surgery date.  They have the extra training for gynecologic cancers and should know what follow-up procedures you would need. Good Luck.

     Take care!!!
