Quick Concerns about Symptoms. 3 month status

by davidblaine, Feb 18, 2007 12:00AM
I had an encounter, relatively low-risk in November. And tested at the 3 month mark. I tested with Ora-Quick at a health clinic. All NEGATIVE.

During the time i was exposed till now, I've had no real risk. Kissing maybe. And Gettin cut in the barber shop with unsterilzed cutters.

I woke up today with very very sore muscles and joint pains. Very painful, my muscles have been twitching all day. I'm still very concerned, i'm not sure if i have a fever it feels like it. I'm also flatulating very very frequently. And i'm experiencing weight loss 8-9 pounds, (no change in what i eat), im even eating more, pizza and what not. and i still feel weak, last night, i felt like i was going to pass out. I'm still very concerned. The girl i was with claims shes HIV neg. Her testing story doesn't add up.

What do you people think?

David,

We've covered this ad nauseum.

1) You have tested CONCLUSIVELY HIV-. It doesn't matter what symptoms you are experiencing at this point; they are not related to HIV.

2) Your symptoms, taken together, are not suggestive of HIV-related ARS anyway.

3) You had no real risk factors for HIV. Getting a haircut is not a risk.

4) Your level of stress, fear, and downright paranoia shows that you would likely benefit from professional counseling. This doesn't mean that you don't have physical symptoms - it just means that your QUALITY of life would likely improve with therapy/counseling.

5) There are numerous other possible explanations for your symptoms, most of which are a much better 'fit' than HIV. You need to see your PCP (NOT AN HIV CLINIC OR SPECIALIST!!!) for proper diagnosis.

AT THIS POINT, REFUSING TO BELIEVE THAT YOU ARE HIV- AND REFUSING TO SEE A DOCTOR FOR PROPER DIAGNOSIS OF YOUR NON-HIV-RELATED SYMPTOMS STRONGLY REINFORCES THE NEED FOR PROFESSIONAL THERAPY/COUNSELING.

6) Your muscle/joint pain might be due to something as simple as physical exertion, or it might indicate dehydration, electrolyte imbalance, or some other metabolic imbalance. These factors, all non-HIV-related, would also cause fatigue and quite possible gastrointestinal symptoms. For example, a low potassium level could lead to all of these problems. You might consider eating a banana a day to increase your potassium intake and see if you have any improvement in your symptoms. Poor diet, eating disorders, stress, overexertion (e.g., exercising TOO much), drugs, certain medications, and thousands of other things can all wreak havoc with your electrolyte balance.

See a doctor (NOT an HIV specialiat or clinic). Though I am not a medical professional, the first thing they'll probably do is run a CBC and possibly other tests. Once they diagnose the source of the symptoms (e.g., an electrolyte imbalance), they'll look for the source of the problem (e.g., metabolic disorder).

But the problem is not HIV. Please post again ONLY once you have seen a doctor and can provide us with an update.

David,
Have you even sought help from a normal GP? Your weight loss is worrying, but not because of HIV. Because your HIV negative.
If you are the type of person who thinks he'll get HIV from a barber's blade, you have serious mental issues that really need attention. I'll bet they are the root of your weight loss, which is often anxiety driven.

Like Strata has said, please seek professional help, from a PCP, and from a psychiatrist. But forget about HIV. You don't have it:)
