Sensations in Groin After Ovary and Tube Removal

by Medsec, Apr 14, 2006 12:00AM
I had my ovary and tube removed about 6 weeks ago, and I am still having these strange "bubbling, tingling-shaky" feelings in my groin. It is driving me crazy! My OB looks at me like I am crazy when I try to describe the feelings. Of course, it took me 2 OB's and one general surgeon to analyze my problem in the fist place. My cyst was about 20 cm, and they all couldn't decide on whether it was an ovarian or a mesteric cyst because it covered my ovary. I finally had to literally beg one of them to do surgery because they kept passing me back and forth. It ended up to be a benign ovarian cyst, but it took almost 9 months to get something done because they kept passing me back and forth between doctors. Anyway, my trust in doctors is about zero, so I was wondering if anyway else has experienced this problem, and how long these strange feelings lasted.

The feelings are probably those "phantom" feelings - you know the way an amputee feels the limb even after it is gone.  This too shall pass!  I hope you are otherwise feeling well.  Godspeed

Thanks for your reply. I am feeling pretty good except for the "insane" feelings. I do want to say that I think it is a joke when they say you are ready for work in no time with a laparscopic procedure. It took me three weeks to go back to work because when I put any pressure on my groin while sitting it was really painful. It must have been a "man" that said that you recover in no time!!

Thanks Again,

Dee

Dee, well, I was back to being my same old self in two weeks, so it might the work they did on you that is to blame!

The sensations are likely due to three reasons.  One is that you had a large cyst, and it displaced other tissues and organs in order to fit into your abdomen; it will take time for everything to "shake" back into the original place.  Also, there is no way to perform these surgeries without some nerve damage.  I myself have one on my right side that twitches and dances until I press it back into obedience.  Last but not least, you are still undergoing a healing process that will take possibly six months, with muscles undergoing healing and then regaining strength, as with the other tissues affected by the surgery.

Boy, I am glad that I am not the only one that has experienced this problem. Each time that I ask my OB a question she acts like this is the first time that she has heard this question? She was even convinced that my inital problem was not ovarian in nature because she never say a cyst that was that large before 20 cm, but with an HMO you are often stuck with the Doctor that you get.I insisted that she take a look, and she finally agreed to do surgery. I even saw another doctor on the plan before the female, and he insisted that I have a hysterectomy because of my asymptomatic fibroids. I am trying to go through menopause at this point, and I asked him won't my ASYMPTOMATIC FIBROIDS shrink shortly any way. He asked me where I heard that information? He wouldn't even treat me for the cyst problem, not that I would have let him treat me anyway. Guess he doesn't get enough money for that procedure? He actually said that I didn't need those parts anymore so why keep them. Don't you often wonder if these people even went to medical school or have read any new material since the 1950's.  Anyway, I sure hope that these feelings subside at some point. I hate to start the whole cycle of going through more tests again and again, and having doctors act like you are crazy, and recommending things that put money in their pockets, but are not always in your best interests. Thanks for letting me vent, and Hudson I hope that you have a speedy recover!

I had my tubes and ovaries removed about 3 weeks ago due to a large tumor on the left one.  I still have phantom pain.  2 out of 3 of the incisions are healed up. Are there any good side effects? I have dropped 10 pounds with out even trying!
