Numb Feet & Swollen Lymph Nodes in relation to HIV

Hello,

I had unprotected sex about 3 months ago, and I had a mild fever a couple weeks after.  As of now, I have swollen lymph nodes in my neck and am experiencing numb feet (both feet).  I also feel a little worn out.  I had an HIV test a week after the unprotected sex and it was negative.  However, with these new symptoms I am quite concerned.  Is it possible that I have HIV?

Thanks,
J

While unprotected vaginal sex is a risk, you most likely did not contact HIV from the encounter that you described. The virus itself is not so easily transmitted from a woman to a man. That is just the nature of this particular virus. But, of course, no one will be able to give you a definitve answer over the Internet.

Luckily, in your case, we don't have to play the guessing game. You are quite able now to go to any clinic and take an HIV test. You are outside of the "window" period, and thus any test you have now would be considered conclusive. My suggestion is to find a clinic that offers one of the rapid tests (either using oral swab or finger-preck (spell it that way to get it past the automated forum filters, substitute an "i" for the "e" in "preck"). You will have your most likely negative result in as little as 20 minutes (I think at least one test now offers results in as little as 3 minutes, though I am not sure which clinics, if any, offer them. Just in case, the test is the Reveal Rapid HIV-1, made by a Canadian firm named MedMira).

So, my recommendation is to go get the test, collect your result, and then put all of this behind you. Oh, and remember how all of this felt and wear condoms in the future. Condoms are your surest way to avoid most STDs, including HIV.
