Ovarian cyst with no ovary???

I am a 30 year old with so many questions right now, but I'm trying to make this short. I've had over 20 ovarian cysts (complex, hemmorhagic) removed in the last 10 years. Two years ago, I had the right ovary and tube removed (the left had been removed 2 years prev.) My last period was Aug. 04. Last month, when I had a ct scan for a kidney stone, they noticed a mass in the area of the right ovary, and were floored when I told them I didn't have one. I went to the ob/gyn yesterday, and they confirmed with utsound a mass about 5cm x 3.5cm. and are testing me for cervical and ovarian??? cancers. I was also told I had endometriosis growing inside of my vagina. I am supposed to go back to the office Monday morning, but right now I have so many questions and quite frankly am scared to death. How can I get a cyst in an area that an ovary is supposed to be but isn't??? They want to remove it within the next 2 weeks I think, but they just acted so funny over the whole thing. Should I be concerned with cancer at this point? Is this normal to happen after your ovaries are removed? And has this kind of thing happened to anyone else???

hi, im so sorry you are going through all of this. im by no means an expert and i certainly dont know everything but just recently with my cyst and other issues, i am somewhat in the same boat. i had my right ovary removed 10 years ago, and just a few weeks ago with an u/s that found another cyst on my left ovary they also said there was a cyst on the right side too. i have an appt to see my gyn on the 25th, but when i talked to her on the phone about that u/s she said that it could be on a lymph node or on some "risidule ovarian tissue". sooo, i guess what im trying to say is that it appears that you can actually have a cyst in that area w/o an ovary. let us know what you hear. my thoughts are prayers are with you.

You could be looking at Ovarian Remnant Syndrome, where a few ovarian cells were left, and aren't enough to produce hormones, but are enough to produce a cyst. Hopefully that's what's going on, since it's pretty easy to fix, and once it's done, it's done.

Hi, my name is Tammy and I'm 33 and in the same boat with you!  I had my ovaries removed due to adhesions and a large cyst (10cm) last year and I have a surgery coming up to remove a 5+ new one where there is no ovary.  My docs are suggesting it may be ovarian remnant syndrome or possibly an endometrioma.  Keep us posted!

I too have no ovaries but have developed what the doctor believes is Ovarian Cysts due to remnants that could have been left behind after surgery.  This condition tends to happen more with women that have had endometriosis or scar tissue from previoius surgery.  They have no way of knowing if the cysts are of ovarian nature until they are biopsied.  I am an early stage ovarian cancer survivor and I just wanted to let you know that just because you have cysts it does not mean that they are cancerous.  I hope that the doctor has not instilled that fear in your head.  Most cysts are benign and there are many many women that develop cysts after their ovaries are gone.  Ovarian Remnant Syndrome is not very common and the best doctors to see for this are GYN/ONC...again, NO, I do not think it is cancer, but, these doctors are the experts in the female system, they have 3 years more training then a OB/GYN and their training is not spent on child birth.

I do not know if this info was for me, but thankyou.  I feel so much better.  It seems the OVARIAN REMNANT is not that unusual.  Why isn't that checked more closely.
