Hi ladies, just wondering if anyone has gotten Neulasta shots and how they make you feel. Thanks

They made me somewhat sore, but they didn't affect me like they do some people.  My Onc had me take Tylenol at the time I got each shot, and every four hours for two or three days whether I needed it or not.  His way of keeping me ahead of the pain.  I believe Dian and some of the others said they hurt more from the shots than they did from chemo.  But not me...the chemo was worse.  I hope it goes well for you and you don't get too much soreness.

I had a terrible time with Neulasta...but...I never did have to miss a dose of chemo because my counts were low....all in all I am glad I got the shots....but, to be honest..every single bone in my body HURT....I gag when I brush my teeth...I would have sworn I had broken ribs! It was worse in the middle treatments and then got a little better in #5 and #6 because I....naa...I don't really know why...I do know I was taking heavy duty pain meds for it when it hit....again; I am glad I took the injections because I never had low blood counts....I have spoken to only one other person who had trouble and his trouble was only the aching he had when he tried to sleep but his doc gave him pain meds as well.  We are all different so just hang in there and remember there is light at the end of the tunnel.

Peace.

I take the Neulasta shots and the past two treatments (4th and 5th) I told my husband that this must be what professional athletes feel like when they are injured....every bone in my body hurt from the knee caps down only!  Wierd, eh?  But I do agree with Gail - keeping ahead of the pain with Ibuprophen/Telenol does help.  I was in such discomfort last time that I actually took one of my post op Oxycodone and that really zonked me out.....scared me, too, I might add.  But hang inthere.  The good news, as we all agreed is that we don't have to miss any of our treatments b'cause our counts are where they should be.  It's a necessary evil to get over this hurdle.  Good luck and God Bless :)  Judie

Had 6 of them, my counts were always fantastic.  Starting from Chemo #2 I experienced extreme "achiness" in my lower legs only, and even though my last chemo was on 9/14/2006, I am still dealing with my lower legs.  Doctors can't say what it is from, but it's managable. They said it could of been the combo of chemo, itself, and I've had several shots of Arsnep (sp?), for my red blood counts, and they switched it to Procrit, but can't say that made much of a difference. I guess I was fortunate with the Neulasta, can't say I really had any problems with it.  Hope you don't either.  Take care.

I ended up in the hospital with an infection for 3 days, about a week after my first chemo.  I was put on Neulasta after that episode and did well.  The only side effect I recall was some minor aching in the thigh/hip area which did not require any meds other than an occasional dose of Tylenol.  Hope this helps.

Thank you all for your responses. That's pretty much how I am feeling, achy in the leg and thigh area. I'm going to try Advil PM at bedtime. Thanks again.

I've had one shot so far and just got other yesterday. Some fellow patients at my center recommended Aleve. It's too early to tell for me but I'll let you know. I too felt very achey like I had a rough work out or tumbled down a flight of stairs from it! It felt like even the bones in my skull hurt! I am wondering if it made me more tired than the chemo. It got better after a couple of days though. My doc said 3-4 advil with every meal but I am trying the Aleve. I don't like taking all those pills.

Neulasta  is an over perscribed, way overpriced, and potentially deadly drug that is given out like candy. Read the warnings before considering this product near you. I have transitional cell cancer (similar to bladder) that is one of the three named tohave receptors for the growth factor in Neulasta. Following one treatment  with the doctor saying if my white bloood cells dropped I would need to be hospitalized, could become septic and in need of a transfusion (count was around 3 and I didn't know better) I became ill, had back spasms couldn't sit even to eat and shortly thereafter new cancer spots appeared despite dramatic shrinkage that had been taking place in the two older spots. If your white cell count can't come up waiting a week of two it may be a different story and you may want to consider Neulasta. If not stay away from this very dangerous drug. Note that Amgen doesn't claim a longer survival rate for patents using Neulasta.

I was on Neulasta. The first time I had a weird reaction that night, it felt like my tissues were swollen (arms, chest, neck), very weird. Never had that reaction again. Only felt pain in my legs but it wasn't bad, I didn't even need to take Tylenol.

In regards to potentially dangerous...they all are. So is the treatment. And definitely the cancer. I had a good surgery and my main goal was to stay on schedule with the chemo. Without Neulasta I couldn't have.

Not defending it...I hate ALL drugs and don't trust the pharma industry at all...I do trust my oncologist though so I played along.

I had Neulasta at one time, when on Gemzar, and it gave me VERYsore and painful bones. It seemed like I had arthritis throughout my entire body. I was glad to get off it. I hope all goes well for you, and you don't have the awful pain with it..    Bwishes.....Helen...
