by Ms_Makita, Jan 22, 2007 12:00AM
Hi,I been following your thread's and noticed similar symptoms/experiences.How long did it take them to find your cancer, what was all of your symptoms, and for how long?

I'm 28 yrs old (no kids)last 8-10 months have had worrisome symptoms. My right ovary is enlarged golfball size (4.4cm)containing a small 1.9 cm complex cyst. All of my ultrasounds/transvaginals are coming back "abnormal",yet its been 4 months since cyst was discovered and they are moving on this slow.I did have laparscopy in Aug to check for endometriosis, none found, everything looked normal according to dr.Cyst was discovered on catscan when I had appendicitis in oct.I have severe pelvic/abdominal pain, pressure, fullness, bloating, indigestion, bowel changes, gas (trapped gas)stomach/bowel rumbeling,nausea,100lbs weight loss, appetite loss, hair loss,no energy. My pcp blames it on "IBS".I have had ibs for 10 yrs but it would only flare up after eating certain foods, these symptoms are gradually getting worse and I'm tired of being blown off as it being ibs.Are these possible symptoms of ovc? I do have gyno appt next monday.Thank you in advance, any advice appreciated, your in my prayers,God bless you!

I would say there is always a possibility of ovarian cancer now that I have it. Before I believed I was too young to get it, but I was wrong. My symptoms started two months after I quit taking the birth control pill. But since I had been on the pill so long I was not aware what my body's normal even was. So I was not too worried at first. It mostly started when I was passing HUGE clots - gross- it totally freaked me out. Then I had dull nagging pain on my left side. Then I would have these really bad cramps that would last about 20 minutes almost every night. I had my period for 2 months straight. so I went to the doctor, they tried to tell me maybe I was not ovulating causing a build up of extra lining - and they did an ultrasound and told me I had a fibroid-so I was like ok. I went to have a Lupron shot to shrink the fibroid and the new doctor did not want to give it to me as he thought I might have something else. He did laproscope and D&C sent it for pathology and then 5 days later told me I had cancer. I had a hysterectmy 1 month later-ovaries, tubes, uterus, appendix, omentum, several lymphnodes were removed during surgery. Have you had a CA125 test and please suggest ovarian cancer to your GYN...

Along with MS_Makita's symptoms I also pass clots every period and my periods are so heavy it just pours out (sorry, gross).  Last month the blood was streaking-like blood, almost spotty like someone took a paint brush and flung it.  I went to gyno/onco today and got the brush off again for another four weeks when I have another ultrasound.  They have already found a fibroid and a couple cysts and, as always, the pain has been unbearable for over a month now.  I did have a CA125 blood draw today and pap and will get the results at weeks-end.  Please let me know if these additional symptoms sound like ovc to you.  Thanks and best wishes to you.

Sorry, I also wanted to say that unlike MS-Makita's weight issues, I have gained much bloating and weight around my middle and it's not from over-eating; i get either nausea or too full when I eat, so I'm hardly eating my meals.  And also have the bowel problems.  Thanks for any insight; I thought I was in the best of hands today and am now very discouraged.  My husband thinks I'm a hypochondriac.

Well the NOCA list of ovarian cancer symptoms are:

swelling or bloating

pelvic discomfort and heaviness (had this one)

Back or abdominal pain (had this my tailbone hurt for months)

Fatigue

Gas, Nausea, indigestion

Change in bowel habits

Emptying your bladder frequently (had this one)

Menstrual irregularities (had this one)

Weight loss or weight gain

Please, you know yourself better then anyone, if you think something is not quite right please be persistant and insist on a solution. The only way they can actually for sure say you have cancer is by a biopsy. Do not let them brush you off. You may seek a different doctor if this one will not listen to you. Good luck I hope its nothing.

Stephers, what stage was your cancer discovered? praying for your speedy recovery! I also have heavy (painful!!) long periods, 2 periods in 1 month, pass huge black clots, near end of period I also will start to bleed chocolate/black blood, almost like tar, been doing this for past 5 months.I was on b/c for 3 months back in summer and did notice symptoms worse after I went off,but the bc didnt agree with me so my dr took  me off of it ,since then things gradually did get worse. I didnt ask for ca125 test yet,my pcp blew me off for ovc saying I'm not at age risk group (28 yrs old) after stories, symptoms, and ages I read on here,I'm starting to panic.I thought at first I was to young but I do have family history of reproductive cancer.I have the worst"crampy" pain like I'm on my period when I'm not. There isnt one day I'm free of pain, never goes away, food dont make much of difference so I'm thinking it isnt all digestive, but I do notice pain radiates to uppder abdominal (left and right)and I also have the tailbone (rectal) pain.I dont know if this "referred" pain or its just in my head because I'm starting feel like I'm going batty..lol

Lilly glad your dr did ca125 test, hope my mine will too.I guess the wait and see approach is so common and they dont want to do surgery
