endometrial tumor

by DPeacock, May 29, 2007 12:00AM
I am 53 years old and apparently going through menopause. I recently had breakthrough bleeding and my doctor ordered a pelvic scan. The results showed a thickening of the uterine wall and a endometrial tumor of about 5cm. She now wants to perform a biopsy in her office and I was wondering if it is a painful procedure and has anyone had this done. What are the chances that this is cancer....I am very nervous.

I would not allow a doctor to biopsy a tumor on my ovary.....there could be cells lost and spread through out your abdomen.....that is taking one heck of a chance.  Most cysts 5 cm and larger are surgically removed....perhaps that is the route for you to consider.  Sounds to me like you need a second opinion....at least see a gyn......then maybe a gyn/oncologist.  Just don't do it this way.....
Peace.
