There are a lot of variables that determine whether or not a cyst should be removed: what kind of cyst it may be, is it causing you pain, how long has it been there, has birth control been tried, etc.
My best friend had a 4cm cyst last month and they did a 4-6 week watch-and-wait routine and on the next ultrasound it had disappeared. If you do have to have it removed, at 4cm, I bet it can be done with the laproscopy, which won't be too traumatic or involve a long recovery period.
What is your doctor saying?
