ruptured ovarian cyst care at home ???

by angelznest, Jun 29, 2007 12:00AM
Please, please, please give me your $.02 worth, I'm a little scared and in a hopeless situation.

I think I have a ruptured or twisted ovarian cyst.  Not sure which it is, since I can't find specific differentiation in the symptoms, anywhere on the web.

At 10pm on June 26, I had an urge for a bowel movement and went to the bathroom. When I got up to go to the bathroom, I felt some pain/discomfort/soreness in my left lower abdomen, about ovary height.  While in the bathroom doing my thing, the pain intensified and rolled in and out of my abdomen for a few seconds and finally if I hadn't been sitting down already, the lightning-fast searing pain that hit that lower left abdomen spot, would have knocked me off my feet for sure.  It remained for several hours so painful that it felt better if I walked bent forward a bit.  Didn't hurt much when I lied down flat on my back, so sleep was not a problem.

I've had severe pain there now for 2 days and nights and suspect it's a ruptured ovarian cyst.  It doesn't hurt much when I don't move, and sometimes it doesn't hurt for 10 minutes or around an hour or more if I move around, doesn't hurt when i lay down on my back.  Isn't searingly painful when I lie on my side or when I stomp down with my foot accidentally, but it seriously reminds me that it's there.  I have no other symptoms.  My blood pressure is good, heart rate is good, no fever, no plaque on tongue (= no sepsis, I think) elimination perfect, no fatigue, no other abnormalities. I don't have insurance at the moment.  My sister needed insurance a few months ago after she got sick with fibromyalgia, but couldn't afford it, and since I never really needed to go to the doctor before, I  cancelled mine in lieu of paying for hers. No biggie for me, but saved her life.  Point is - I can't go to the doctor, I can't even tell my sister something is wrong because she'll die of guilt over the insurance thing!

My questions to anyone here who might know -
1) what ARE the differences in symptoms of twisted cyst versus ruptured cyst?

2) If I have a TWISTED cyst, what would the doctors actually DO, if I went in?

3) If I have a RUPTURED cyst, what would the doctors actually DO, if I went in?

4) If I were in the desert without transport, communication or any way to get to the hospital, but had access to every natural & home remedy on earth, what would be the BEST way to help my body get through this and heal itself from this?

5) Do you know of any Traditional Chinese Medicine or other "original" medicine treatments for something like this?

Many thanks & healing blessings to you all,
Angel

I'm so sorry you don't have insurance. It's bad enough having problems. This involves medical costs—what about a colonoscopy. And also ultrasound to see how your cysts are doing. You can also post to Dr. Goodman on this site. It could be your cyst or something entirely different.

Maybe someone else will post with similar circumstances.

Somehow you have to get yourself into the medical office or emergency room. If you wait it could be serious. Without insurance I would go to the emergency room. Too bad for them-so many people don't have insurance. Don't put a guilt trip on yourself that you don't have insurance.

Best of luck and please keep us updated.

Go to the ER  Find a hospital that will take all patients, regardless of income.  Most will work with you.  By law (and federal funding) if its a hospital designated as caring for those regardless of income, they can't turn you away.

At the very least, try to call them, explain your pain, ask if they will treat you.
  Good luck.

I have had 2 ovarian cysts, one of which ruptured and both had to be surgically removed.  Just my luck, 3 months after the removal of the last one, I have ANOTHER one growing and experiencing many of the same symptomatic pains that you are.  Thing is, I have experiences that sudden sharp pain of "oh my gosh!" and a collapse near after that has truly concerned me.  I had insurance before and currently have an HMO (that doesn't cover squat) so I am feeling like I am in the same boat you are.  As I sit here, my bladder fills and I have that sudden pain that makes me think I should go to the ER.  As an outsider, I think you should definitely go tot he ER and seek medical attention.  It is obvious to me that your symptoms are quite more severe than my own.  I fear that my own will graduate to your symptoms, which scares me because, like you, I don't have insurance to cover it.  So, as a friend, and someone who is in a very similar situation as you are regarding insurance, I still strongly suggest you go to the ER.  If I had the pain you are experiencing, insurance or not, I would be there. A ruptured or twisted cyst can cause so many complications!  Scar tissue that will cause constant pain every time you need to make a bowel movement is the LEAST of these concerns.  If you are planning on having kids, your chances are inhibited substantially!  The worst part is that if left untreated, the ruptured cyst could result in sever illness or even death!  SO please do not look at his as a guilt thing and do what is best for yourself!  It will not take away what you have already given your sister!  Just seek that med attn!

Ladies, I'd like to suggest that we take this discussion over to the Ovarian Cyst forum.  Angelznest, do follow the good advice above and go to the ER.  Good luck and look forward to seeing how it goes it for you.

go to the emergency room, at that point they will give you the paper work to fill out for medicaid in the state in which you live. This is something that has to be treated. You do not deserve to be in the pain that these things can cause, you dont know for sure what is going on, as it can be a variety of things. So once you read this have someone take you to the nearest emergency room and get it taken care of immediately. Once you fill out the paper for medicaid the state will help with costs, and you will be eligible for the proper follow-ups recommended
