Atypical Eosinophilia

by paulpt, Jun 06, 2006 12:00AM
I have been having some weird fatigue, intermittent lightheadedness, and frequent colds/flu, infections and pulsing "quick" headaches for over a year now and recently a burning-knawing pain coming from my right lateral mid thoracic area (around t8-t10).  I have seen several doctors and no one can seem to put thier finger on what's going on.  The only thing tests have shown is that I have had a sort of reversal of my neutrophil and lymphocyte ratios that has very slowly and consistantly worsened over the past 6 months.  My total WBC counts are WNL, and absolute counts are WNL (except eosiniphils).  My neutrophil percent has gradually lowered is now at 34%, lymphocyte percent gradually raised, is now at 44%, and eosinophils percent gradually raised is now at 11% (absolute count at .600)  I also had an MRI one month ago that showed "extensive diffuse non cervical adenopathy that didn't show any difference with or without contrast.  One last thing I have noticed is (since last year also) my fingernails are becoming significantly duller with noticable longitdinal striations but no discoloration.  I feel all of these things are somehow related.  My questions are:

What internal organs can refer pain to the right lateral thoracic cage - I am a physiotherapist and am 80+% certain this is not muskuloskeletal?

Is it possible this could be caused by some sort of Leukemia or blood cancer?

What other tests could be done to help diagnose this?  Another MRI will be done in a month or so and if the adenopathy doesn't clear or worsens a biopsy will probably be done.  Thanks

Yes I get fatigued, and lymphoma has been a consideration for quite some time, but because the adenopathy hasn't visibly grown at least at the rate you would expect a cancer to, and upon mine and my doctors palpation they change in size both enlarge and shrink intermittiently, I don't want them digging around in my neck to do  a biopsy of a swollen lymph that may or may not be one of the affected ones.  These lymph have been swollen for over 5-6 months, but really haven't gotten "large".  Tonsilitis was considered but again we are wating for one month or so to do another MRI and compare.  One doctor suggested this might be a myelodysplastic disorder and has referred me to a hematologist.  Thanks for the suggestion.

P.S.  I really really would like to know where to find out information on visceral pain referral patterns.  I have searched but haven't been very successful in finding any definitive literature.

Are you fatigued? Have you thought about being tested for a possible Lymphoma?
