Problems with spleen?

Ever since being diagnosed with mono last year my spleen hasn't been the same.  I can't drink like I used to because my spleen seems to become more enlarged with alcohol (sometimes I feel a  bulge underneath my skin), and it is accompanied with intense pain that feels like I'm being stabbed.  When I don't drink there is no pain, yet there is always pressure and I can feel my spleen whenever I press on it.  It is very uncomfortable and it is constant.  Nothing makes it feel better.  I went to the hospital and they did an ultrasound.  I was told that my spleen is of normal size and they were unable to detect anything.  I could have sworn that my spleen was the source of all this, but now I'm being told otherwise.  All the pain and discomfort I get is located exactly where it was a year ago when I had mono and it was in fact enlarged.  If it's not my spleen, then what could it be?

on the left side high right below rib cage, I get a swelling and it is puffy, it comes and goes. Makes no difference if I have eaten or not, no pain. It just feels odd. I had a hyaitel hernia repaired and have had this problem since.

Have you had your liver checked out? I'd get a liver function test done and stay away from liquor until you find out what is going on. Upper right quadrant pain can be liver related too.
