bigeminy and chest pain

by rmwcaw, May 31, 2007 12:00AM
i was diagnosised with bigeminy.  i recently went to the emergency room and was admitted due to chest pain.  there was pressure in my chest in the area of my heart.  i currently have the pressure in my chest.  i also had a burning pain in my chest.  while admitted to the hospital i was given nitro intravenisly and this helped.   tests were run and i have been sent home.  the dr said she could not diagnosis my problem but on my discharge papers prescribed prilosec.   i don't feel as if my problems are related to heart burn.   i have the results of the echocardio gram.  tech comments say pt in bigeminy mildly enlarged w c adequate syst fa..(i can't make out the rest and ef 56%.   it also shows the measurements of my right ventricle and lvot diameter as 1.9 and the normal values as 3-4 and 2-4 respectively.   does all the above sound like a heartburn problem?

Hi,

Your ECHO report is normal and occasional bigeminy are not a cause of concern.
You could still seek a cardiologist consultation and get a repeat ECG done.

Has a chest xray been done to rule out any rib fracture, chest infection, or air in the pleural space?

There could be several causes of the symptoms you are having including a muscle pull, injury or trauma at the site, chest infection, etc.

Do you have any associated symptoms?

You should apply some local pain relief medications, take some oral pain relief medications, maintain a proper posture throughout the day, try some warm compresses.

You could take some antireflux antinausea medications and see if they help with your symptoms - this could be pain due to reflux or GERD.

Consult the doctor if the symptoms persist and discuss whether you need to get any investigations including a chest xray and ECG done.

Let us know about how you are doing and if you need any other information.

Regards.
