2 year old with chronic fevers

by muchafraid, Jun 02, 2007 12:00AM

I have a 2 year old son who had a terrible case of pnemonia a few months ago.  Since then he's constantly running a fever.  It's on and off all day, everyday.  Usually staying at about 99.5 or lower, ocassionally going up to 101-102.3 or so.  And once as high as 104.7.  It's been going on over three months now.  He's been tested for food allergies and CF.  Both came back negative.  He is playing and eating, and going to the bathroom ok... so the doctor thinks I'm nuts.  But  I cant understand why his body would run fevers if it wasn't trying to fight something.  Until Feb.  this had never been a problem.  What is wrong with him?

Get him tested by an infectious disease doctor of viral infections.  I had a fever for 7 months and they found out it was mono, or the Epsin-Barr Virus.  It's possible he could have caught this virus from drinking after someone, etc.  It is more easily spread than lots of people realize... you don't have to kiss someone to get it.  =)

Best of luck.

I too have a son that had Pneumonia this past December and has had chronic fevers for the past 6 or so months every 4-6 weeks since then. I can set my calendar by them. I call or go to the doctor every time and they tell me it's a virus. This time I won't take that for an answer. I demanded to know what was wrong. I wanted blood work and cultures. As of today, everything is normal with the blood work. We see an infectious disease doctor on Thursday. I don't know any other child that has recurring fever like this. We run very high. (103-104 degrees) I do Motrin every 6 hours on the hour with Tylenol in between.
Thanks for the comment board. At least I know I'm not crazy-

What ever came about with your situation, muchaffraid?????????

I read your above comment and I too am going through the same thing with my child.  On and off fevers for almost a year...always being told it is viral....how did you make out with the infectious disease doctor.  That is my next step as well.
