Petechiae

by mag75, Jul 16, 2007 01:01PM
I am a 32 year old female. I get 2-3 petechiae a day on sites such as my chest, arms, legs and face.  They are all less than 1mm and seem to be related to the sun?  They do not blanch.  They come and go within a few days.  I have had them in the past and had a cbc and sed rate done and they were normal.  Please let me know if anyone else has these.  I need to know if everybody has these and I just notice them more.  Or should I be concerned?

Hi,

I suggest that you pursue your consult with the hematologic specialist. Red spots over the extremities may be due to several factors and this involves vascular reactions, bleeding disorders or more superficial skin conditions like dermatitis, fungal infections, sweat rash and viral rash.

Is the rash itchy?

Also, you have noted some other associated signs and symptoms like headache and sore throat which may suggest an undergoing infectious process eg a viral infection.

Was there any previous exposure with someone who has an infection?

Any previous travel history?

Watch out for any gum bleeding ,severe headaches and visual problems or change in urine color or appearance. If these are present an immediate consult is necessary.
