Experiencing major back pain due to Herpes

by lori20, May 20, 2007 12:00AM
Hello everyone,
In October of last year I was diagnosed with having Herpes and my doctor prescribed ACYCLOVIR 800MG for the herpes and VICODIN 500-5MG for pain. Well since then I have been okay except for this annoying pain in the middle and lower part of my back nothing that I've taken seems to make it go away. I've done some research on Herpes since contracting this STD and I think if I'm not mistaken the virus tend to rest next to your spinal cord. So I guess that might be part of my problem. I've also lost weight since having herpes. So that's my problem weight loss and severe back pain. I've been eating healthier since having been diagnosed but what else can I do?

Herpes causing chronic back pain would be unusual. I recommend a full work up with your doctor and/or a neurologist to try to figure out what is going on.  It's not unusual for herpes to make a pre-existing medical condition more evident.

Thanks Grace,
I've seen so many different doctors since my initial visit to my family practioner. From my Gynecologist to an Internal Medicine doctor. None of them seem to be able to pin point my problem. Thank you very much for suggesting that I see a Neurologist. This will be my next step.

I agree with that. Even if herpes caused the back problems it wouldn't be ongoing one wouldn't think anyway.
