Possible Missed Miscarriage

Hi, I had a question about a possible missed miscarriage.  I have been going to my o/b for a couple of weeks now for my pregnancy.  They had found two sacs, one empty.  Last week I went in to check on the other sac and we found the one baby measuring 8 weeks and 1 day with a HB of 171.  The other sac still empty.  I went back one week later, 3/9 and we found that my baby did not have a HB and measured at 7 weeks 6 days.  The other sac still empty.  I should be around 10 weeks.  My doctor says she wants to do a d&e. Is there any possibility that they could be wrong?  Is it normal for the fetus to shrink?  Should I wait for a natural miscarriage or get the d&e?  Should I get a second opinion?  I don't know if there is anything that may change the outcome of a u/s, but I had coffee about 45 minutes before the u/s and only about 12 ounces of water.  Any help would be apprectiated.

I am new tonight to the site.To the one who posted "no heartbeat at 8 weeks" sounds like you have my problem.

I had two missed miscarriages, no heartbeat at 6 weeks prior to having my son two years ago.My doctor put me on a daily aspirin and heparin and I had a healthy pregnancy and child on the third pregnancy. I miscarried last week unfortunately again.

Prior to the pregnancy that produced my son, I tested positive once for antiphospholipid antibody syndrome (or Hughs Syndrome) which basically means my blood clots more than the normal pregnant woman. Heparin and aspirin combat this, raising your chance of having a healthy full term pregnancy to 75%! Hence, my son!

I first tested negative for this and then tested positive. It can move in and out of your blood due to medications, infections, for for no reason at all. So perhaps you've always tested negative for it if you've been tested at all. I suspect my missed miscarriage last week (also at 6 wks no heartbeat) was due to this. My doctor said the heparin and aspirin is not 100 percent. I was also taking amoxicillin and got sick with an ear infection, which I've since found out that amoxicillin and infections can raise these antibody levels in your blood. Thought I was home free with the next pregnancy...wasn't so.

Sorry to go on and on, I just want to help anyone out there that might be facing similar struggles as me. Miscarriages and D&Cs SUCK!!!!!!!

Hi every one i am new to the site tonight
i was reading all the messages and i have my own story to share with you all.
I have had 8 pregnancy's all ended with no heartbeat at 8 weeks
i have to go for a 6 week scan after i lost my first one due to no heart beat
so i go for a 6 week scan now every time i am pregnant ...
all the babys have a heart beat at 6 weeks but no heart beat at 8 weeks
and thye are smaller in size by the 8 week scan i dont think it is called shrinking i think this is because thats the size the baby should of been when the baby died so thats why the baby was not measuring what it should be at 8 weeks .
They say the babys died sometime in the 7th week
i have no pain or no bleeding to tell me that this has happend although after my first experiance to this i could feel somthing was wrong the next time i was pregnant and i was right. I have to go in hospital to have a d&c to clean out the womb so there is nothing left inside that could start infection or poisen .
I have also had a blighted ovum that is where there is no baby in the sac all that is seen is a empty yolk sac and with that i did start to bleed a few days later after my scan for that one i was brought in to hospital till the next day i was given a tablet that brings the sac just l;ike a really bad period they give you a tray to catch it in so they can take it away to do test's on but it would not come so they sent me home and when i got home later that day i passed it while having a wee on the toilet and i can honestly say it was like the size of a tampon  sorry every one if this is to much information .
It has been heart ache for me its a wonder i have not just give up they tested me with everything treated me like a guini pig to get to the bottom of why that happens to me and they could not find anything at all except onec during one of the pregnancy's my blood was a bit thick but was not with the rest so they just advised me to take fragmin ingections everyday while i am pregnant.
I have not been able to experiance the fragmin as i have not been able to get caught pregnant for 3 years so my partner had a semen sample done at our hospital this year to find he has slow swimmers as if we have not been through enough so we was put forward for iui where they insert the semen high up in the cervix i had that done on saturday just gone so i am waiting now for my result so i will do a pregnancy test later next week i hope it works i really do then i have the worry of keeping the baby and seeing a heart beat at 8 weeks its awfull ,

Hey everyone. I am a little confused over here. I took 3 pregnancy tests within the last 7 days and all were positive. First I took the clearblue that gives a + or - and the + was dark and showed up right away. The other 2 were clearblue digitals. I try to track my cycle on mymonthycycles.com because i have an irregular cycle which makes it hard to pin point the best time to try to make a baby. Sometimes my cycle length goes up to 42 days. My first day of my last period was on March 18th 2007. I cant remember how it was at that time but i know that my fiance and i tried to make a baby on March 30th 2007 and that was the last time we had tried. It was very unexpected for me to see a positive pregnancy test but I was thrilled. We had already told our families we are expecting. But since last night I have been having doubts thinking that Im not really pregnant. I dont know if i had miscarried the last time i thought i had my period. April 17th was when I took the first positive test. I took it because I was feeling tired that day and when I woke up from my nap I stood up right away and blacked out for a minute like a dizzy spell or something. But I really dont have any symptoms. I dont even know if i have missed my period this month yet. I did a pregnancy calculator to see what my due date would be and it said December 23rd so that would make me 5 weeks today. Which makes it about 6 weeks after I possibly could have miscarried. I cant go to the doctors yet until my insurance arrives but does anyone know how i can find out if i am really pregnant? My nipples are sore and sensitive off and on and I do have to use the bathroom more frequently but i feel like I have too much energy to be pregnant and with my last 2 pregnancies I experianced morning sickness from the beginning of my pregnancy to almost 6 months very badly which is also why I doubt this. It also seems like my appetite is getting lesser this week then last week. Keep in mind i took another digital today and it still said positive. If anyone can help me at all please do so. I will be very disappointed if this is a false positive.

Sorry for your loss. I had a miscarriage and a D&C on 2/12/07. I am just getting over my first period and the doctor told us it is safe to try again. There is always a possiblity that things can go wrong with a procedure but like I wsa told it is extremely rare. I had no problems. I hope this helps. Best of luck to you.

I was told on Friday that there was no fetal heartbeat, I'm 10 weeks and we saw the heartbeat at 7wks 4days and I thought that everything was over until coming home and talking to friends and family and looking on a website called: www.misdiagnosedmiscarriage.com The website gave me a lot of hope, but at the same time I had the doctor tell me that there was no heartbeat and he discussed a D&C or told me that I could just go home and see if it passes on its own. Then I called the nurse this morning and she was leaning towards the fetus was dead and that when I came back in on Wednesday they would do another ultrasound to be sure and then recommend doing a D&C. I still have had no bleeding or bad cramps. I've talked to friends who went to the doctors due to bleeding and they then couldn't find the HB but now they have had successful pregnancies. I have a doctors appointment on Wednesday morning and I just hope and pray that they find a HB...am I just setting myself up for disapointment?

I am so sorry to hear about your news.  I am not sure why the size of the fetus would measure smaller, at a later date, it doesn't make any sense.  I guess it would be because each u/s measurements would be dependant on the accuracy of the tech??  The continues symptoms of pregnancy occur because your body needs time to realize that it is no longer pregnant.  It can take 2-4 weeks to actually miscarry.  If this is the case, a d and c, may not be necessary and can cause scar tissue which can potentially affect future pregnancies.  I would only have it if it is deemed medically necessary.  Your body has a way of looking after itself.  

I feel your pain.  It is very devastating.  Find someone to help you through it.  I had two m/c at 12 weeks both.  In the latter, the fetus died at 8w3d.  Just a little encouragement, I have four beautiful children.  One birth, one miss, one birth, one miss and two very healthy babies aged 22 months and 5 1/2 months.  Don't give up.

I am so sorry for your loss i know how you feel,I had exactly the same thing happen on 05/02/2007. i too asked if there was anyway they could be wrong, they wouldn't say it if they weren't 100% sure. i had a scan on 30/01/2007 and the baby was fine and 8 weeks 1 day,i had a scan on 05/02/2007 and he died on the thursday 01/02/2007 and then he also shrunk by the 05/02/2007 to 7 weeks and 5 days. this is normal for the baby to reduce in size so the doctor told me.i had a D&E the e being dilette and evacuation instead of the curgette. i had my symptoms for another 2 1/2 weeks after the operation, morning sickness, sore breasts all of it,i then ovulated on 26/02/2007 so it doesn't take long for your body to get back to normal. The amount of fluid would have no bearing on the heartbeat being seen.I am glad i had the operation because it could take upto a week or two to complete and with the operation i had little bleeding and little pain and i didn't see anything, It is a personnel choice you have to make for you. i do hope all goes well and i wish you the best.

I woud ask for another ultrasound to be sure. I had a missed miscarriage in 05 and was 12 weeks. I had all my pregnancy syptoms and they said it had stopped growing at 7 weeks. I ended up having a D&C. I hope everything goes well with you.

I have had no bleeding and I still have pregnancy symptoms, nausea, dizziness, and sore breasts.  I also eat and then suddenly I'm starving and my stomach is growling. I am only 22 and no concerns for possible miscarriage.
