Safety of Ultrasounds in Pregnancy

by mami2karina, Mar 14, 2007 12:00AM
Hi!  I am currently 11 weeks 2 days pregnant.  I having been having weekly ultrasounds since my 6th week of pregnancy and will continue them until the end of my 1st trimester, after that I will have the usually 20 week morphology scan.  My question is, is it safe to have so many ultrasounds?  I mean, I am assuming it is because they are doing them, and not at my request.  I have a fairly large cyst on my left ovary and they wanted to keep an eye on it throughout my 1st trimester to make sure it doesn't give me any problems.  I was just trying to get someone else's opinion on having so many ultrasounds.  Not that I'm complaining, I get to see my little on grow every week and change and it's amazing:)

To my knowldege, it is perfectly safe.  My dr. is also doing an u/s every 2 weeks to give me peace of mind after my m/c last Sept.  He is doing this through 14 weeks, and then I'll have the 20 week as well.  We are at the same point in pregnancy.  I'm due Oct. 3rd....when are you due?

Well, my due date is showing October 1st.  This pregnancy center has given me such peace of mind since I had two m/c last year.  Today's u/s went great!  My baby is measuring 4.7cm long and the hb was 161bpm.  He or she was moving all around and she had a hard time getting the rate rate or a good pic for me, but it turned out okay.  It's amazing to see how they change with each passing week.  I also saw the umbilical cord this time, couldn't see that during the last u/s.  Also I could see the arms and legs more and the little black dots on the face where the eyes are developing.  I still can't believe how active my little on it, it was just turning around and around.  I can't wait until my 20w u/s to find out what I'm having, everyone tells me it's gonna be a girl again.  I was really hoping for a boy this time around, but as long as it's healthy I really don't care.  Does your doctor give you pics at each u/s?

having so many ultrasound is safe... my doctor had to do it since they declared me as being a high risk... they did the u/s until I was around 30 weeks, but then my baby turned out to be okay, and that was my last u/s... I gave birth to a healthy baby boy 3 weeks ago... so don't worry, u/s can't harm your little one.
