To: what about an ultrasound?
I'm just a little confused about the detection/ruling out of ectopic pregnancies. I am about 5 1/2 weeks pregnant and I had an u/s done last Friday. The tech told me it was too early to rule out ectopic pregnancy. But from doing research I thought that was one of the ways that the doc. rules out ectopic because they can see where the "mass" is lying. If it is in fact in your uterus or not. And how could the doc. give a vaginal exam and tell me that I am pregnant, but not know if my uterus way swollen or something was somewhere else? He also told me to get prenatal vit. Would he have done this if he thought it may be ectopic?
Also, I have been having this weird, I mean weird pain in my left side. I cannot describe it. One minute its a pulling feeling, sometimes a dull ache. Better never a cramping feeling. I told the u/s tech about this and when she did the vaginal u/s she told me I had a cyst on my right ovary. Could that be causing pain in my left side? I just want to know what is causing this pain.
I go tomm. for another blood test (because they are monitoring my hcg levels) and then for another u/s wednesday. I just want answers so I can stop wondering.

Thanks

I am a 28 yr old woman who has had an ectopic in december of 06, surgery to remove the fetus and the tube on January 2, 07. My levels then did not reach above the 700 range.  I am finally pregnant again.  I am supposedly 6 and a half weeks pregnant. My first hcg levels were done 8/30 (2982), my second levels were done 9/1 (2701), and the third levels were done 9/4 (3730).  Its really an emotional roller coaster at this point.  I am a smoker however I have been trying to quit.  I lowered my intake of cigarettes.  However with all the stress going on I cannot get rid of the pack of cigarettes.  Is it possible that I just have lower hcg levels or do you think that smoking is the cause of this?  If so, I will throw out the cigarettes for good. While pregnant with my son, seven yrs ago, i never experienced morning sickness.  I've heard that morning sickness comes from having high hcg levels.  Im hoping its just the way that my hormones are. I am going for my first ultrasound today with hopes that everything will be ok.  Can anyone explain why my levels fell then rebound? Could this be another ectopic? and is there any hope for a healthy pregnancy or am I just giving myself false hope?

Your unborn fetus cannot tell you so I will... QUIT SMOKING! That is really sad, the doctor should be able to say if your levels are normal.

I am sorry but why would you post something saying that while other women are walking on eggshells??

Hope it all works out.  Please quit.

My doctor said smoking is not the cause of my soon-to-be miscarriage. 1 to 2 cigarettes a day would not cause my levels to drop then rebound.  The reason why my levels r roller coastering is because there is no fetus inside the sac. I am a very healthy person. I workout and do cardio 5 days a week, i eat a healthy diet, i take vitamins, i drink 10 glasses of water a day.  Its just something that happens to ppl.  I am unfortunately one of the unlucky ones.  I was looking for help not critism, but thanks for making me feel more like **** about the failure of my pregnancy. Not everyone is as perfect as you.

Once again I did not say what you are writing Kate!!

I am terribly sorry for what you are going through, I was asking that you put smoking aside while you are carrying.

Feel how you want to feel, I never claim to be perfect by any means.

I know how you feel. I just lost a baby Aug. 10th. I smoked through my pregnancy, but cut down a lot.  I just don't think non-smokers know how stressful it is on a smoker to try and quit. Honestly I have heard if you try and quit cold turkey it will put more stress on you and the baby and make you more at risk. I really am sorry for your loss. But try and keep your head up. : ) I am trying for another so maybe it will work out for both of us. Best of Luck!!

I was a smoker and quit.  I have known many women whom quit cold turkey when they found out.  It is your choice and I am sorry for all women that have to go through a miscarraige, I have gone through it too.

You put it out there to comment on so don't get upset when you get a post that you might feel is mean.  Maybe you are just sensitive as well. I don't think it is a good idea, but at the end of the day it is your choice.

Hope everything works out the way you want it too.  Just know that there are women out that that have gone through it.  I went through both so I know how hard it is... you will get through and one day you will be carrying again faced with the same decision.

Smoking IS an issue

Replying to: Tilted Uterus is not an issue
Smoking IS actually a pretty valid reason to refuse further treatment. Overweight is another similar issue. Many doctors won't proceed with next steps if in their estimation, you are not holding up your end of the bargain by becoming as healthy as possible. Right or not, your doctors also could be using the smoking cessation as a sign that you're truly *ready* to become pregnant and mature enough to parent.

Smoking can lower his sperm counts as well as mke it more difficult for a fertilized egg to implant and continue to grow. If you're trying to get pregnant, you don't want to do anything that could reduce your chances, and this can.

If you have a borderline problem that is undiagnosed, either of you using tobacco products (or using lube, or hot tubbing, or whatever) might be enough to move the scales from borderline fertility to sub-fertile. It's not that any of these things will necessarily prevent pregnancy, but it could very well reduce your chances.

Quit. Really. Lung cancer is not the way you want to go. Check out my profile, that picture is a memorial tattoo for my best friend, who died last year from lung cancer. I quit. Her husband quit. It's the least we could do and we are healthier for it.

First, the near-miscarriage was due to using a heating pad for a pulled back muscle from pushing myself in a triathlon, the week the egg was implanting.  I did not know i was pregnant at that time.  Second, my husband does not smoke. He does not sit in hot tubs, he does not wear binding underwear, we do not need lube. THIS IS NOT THE REASON WHY MY PREGNANCY WILL FAIL.  Third,  anyone can get lung cancer.  A friend of the family, never smoked a day in her life, would never be around smoking.  She found out she had lung cancer after a cough from bronchitus would not go away.  Anyway, i smoked while carrying my son up until i was 10 weeks pregnant when i finally heard a heart beat.  He turned out fine and the pregnancy was perfect.  My main question was if u can actually read beyond the smoking part was "Can anyone explain why my levels fell then rebound?" Then I went on to ask if anyone would think my pregnancy was viable after a drop in hcg then rebounding.  BUT, I got my answer from a REAL doctor.  Thanks for you comments!

It was from a real doctor I pulled off a different forum.  I was just trying to show you that I wasn't being nasty...

I do not know why you are so mean.  If you know it all then why do you need to defend yourself and lifestyle.
I am done.  Have a nice life kate, I will pray for you. I am sorry for whatever offended you.

fourth, please don't write me back
