Hair Loss

by Bassist1230, Jul 18, 2007 12:10AM
Here's some family history...

My father's side: My father is 45 and lost a lot of this hair. So did most of the men on his side of the family. He kept his the longest out of his brothers and sisters.

Mother's side: Most of the men on this side of the family kept their hair. My hair is exactly like my grandfather's and he kept his hair his entire life. My mother and grandmother never experienced any kind of hairloss either.

From this is it possible to tell if I will lose my hair? I will supply any other information if needed.

As a hairdresser I can say it just doesn't matter what side it is. You either take the genetic makeup from either side. Which one do you say you take after? Did your dad start losing it early like at your age? If so you would notice now. One thing I can recommend it that you take special care now to prevent damage to the follicle. Most men lose their hair due to excessive DHT. Which in general is a form of testosterone which settles into the hairs follicle eventually smothering the follicle until it dies off. Once it dies off, its gone for good. You can usually notice the actual strand getting thinner and thinner. Not the actual density. Once the actual density has decreased is when you actually see a difference in thickness and hair loss. You can prevent DHT by using a shampoo that removes the buildup from the scalp, like Nioxin and Rogain shampoo's. Using this early on, even if just once a week could help prevent any future loss. Also most men with high levels of DHT have more body hair. If that sounds like you than you could be a candidate for hair loss. Good luck and if you have any other questions I will be glad to help.

I think my dad started losing his hair in his mid to late 30's. I know that my hair takes after the men on her side, and all of them kept their hair. I'm not losing any hair at the moment.
If I use one of those shampoos every night when I take a shower do you think it will help me keep my hair most of my life?
Also, I know there are some treatments for hair loss, do you know if any of them work?

Also, yes I think I have a bit of body hair. I have thick eyebrows, and a unibrow if I don't shave it, and I've had peachfuzz on my top lip since I was really young. My legs are pretty hairy and my arms are about average. Everything else seems about average.
I figured that was just because I was 50% Italian.

Yes I think using that shampoo on a regular basis is a great idea and it will help you keep your hair longer, I know my husband has been using it and it sure has helped him. I noticed a big difference. I know sone men sho have also tried propecia but I only recommend that if the hair loss is extreme. Keep using a shampoo that removes DHT and you shouldn't have a problem.
Good luck!

Since you mentioned your family members - genetically, hair loss for a man is inherited via his mother`s genes. Whatever her father`s hair condition was will likely be yours. So it seems that you are lucky.

Dear Concerned for hair loss
Nioxin and Rogain are CHEMICALLY BASED SHAMPOOS and hair growing gimmics.
suggest never using them ever.  they can grow fuzz but never full mature hair follicles.
also shampooing daily one must be educated and use only 100% natural and organic hair care products.  never use gels nor mousses as these are very toxic and full of polymers which are liquid plastics.  guaranteed to plug up your scalp and oil glands thus causing increasing hair loss.
get educated and read up on ingedients and natural ways to stimulate new and increased hair growth.
search google  Natural hair care - natural hair growth and never use CHEMICAL BASED ingredients in any of your skin, hair nor cosmetics they are toxic and over time will cause in themselves hair loss.
great Health and Education
