CAN DEPRESSION DRUGS CAUSE PSYCHOTIC EPISODES

by ssseans22, Apr 18, 2007 12:00AM
Hello everyone I was suffering from some depression about 2 years ago and I was taking Zoloft and Xanax. I was taking alot of it and had some hallucinations. Not visual but I was having crazy thoughts and I was very paranoid and thinking alot of weird stuff. I think it was the medication because before I took the medication I was fine. I remember I was taking 10 or more pills a day.Your gonna think Im insane when I tell you this but I remember about 2 years ago when I was taking the medication. I took it in the morning then I left for work and on the way to work I was on the highway and it was a very foggy day and I seen a truck that said 1-800-DIAL-GOD and I started to think that it was a sign from GOD and I was terrified. I thought I was gonna die. The truck scared the sh.t out of me. It turned out that it was a delivery truck the GOD part stands for guaranteed on delivery but at the time I was just focused on the 1-800-DIAL-GOD on the back of the truck. I think I was taking too many pills and I was thinking crazy and I think the medication made me severely paranoid. I remember I seen the truck and immediately I was in terror and horror and my heart was racing extremely fast and I thought I was gonna die. At the time I couldnt think straight and I thought that G.O.D. was coming for me. I thought he was gonna take me. Iv been off the medication for 2 years now and I feel fine no more crazy thoughts or anything like I experienced when on the medication. So my question is can depression drugs cause psychotic episodes like Im describing.

hay there , well im sure they can cause psychotic episodes, . since i have been put on prozac i have been having the worse nitemares, which are sometimes pretty terrifiing, there isnt a night they goes by that i dont have them ,they wake me up and leave me feeling really awfull in the mornings, since i have been on this anti depressant, i have found myself unable to concentrate for long , and keep thinking things over and over again,i get very forgetfull i find myself staring into space alot,i get very overwhelmed around crowds of people and also get very paranoid over silly things.so yes i am sure they can cause these kind of symptoms, and hope to be changing my med soon, these are just a few of the side effects i have gotten from them, i have come to understand every med can effect different people in different ways everyone has there own reactions to them.i hope this helps. ur not alone :)....

if you are having psychotic episodes.you arent on the right meds. It is time to get to your doc and tell about these things.
The idea of the meds are to keep you from having these episodes.
So good luck and let ne know how you are,

Negative outcomes of drugs can be found by downloading the drug company's physician's prescription instructions.

You may have a different problem, Subliminal Distraction exposure. Visit the panic attacks page at VisionAndPsychosis.Net. Investigating this phenomenon and your possible exposure will not interfere with any drug or treatment you now have. It does not involve any treatment modality.

Depression can be shown to be one of the outcomes of SD exposure. It appears in users of Qi Gong and Kundalini Yoga. Although these exercise users believe that powerful life energy is responsible for psychiatric outcomes with these exercises, performing both of them in groups creates Subliminal Distraction exposure.

The panic attacks page has illustrations of potential exposure modalities other than Qi Gong and Kundalini Yoga.

As your exposure from SD increases and decreases due to changes in behaviors the symptoms of your mental distress will increase and decrease. This will make you believe that drugs have created the new symptoms you have.

When this phenomenon was discovered in the 1960's it produced psychotic episodes in knowledge workers. The cubicle was created to deal with the vision startle reflex and where cubicles are correctly used the mental events don't happen in the workplace. Computers incorrectly located where there is repeating detectable movement  in peripheral vision are a likely source of exposure.

short answer--yes they can.  what you describe however sounds like a severe panic episode which may or may not have been contributed to by your medication.

It probably was not your medication.  You probably have Major Depression with psychosis.  Some people do not fully respond to depression meds and experience a psychosis.  You may need a permanent or temporary anti-psychotic along with a depression medication. Anxiety can also play a role.  You may be given something like Lorazepam or Ativan to help.

Go and see a doctor.  Don't be afraid.  A lot of people have this problem.
