Acute HIV esophogeal ulcers

by Hunter10, Jun 11, 2007 12:00AM
Here goes.  Last week i was in a lot of pain.  Couldnt swallow water, food, anything.  I went to the doctor.  He prescribed antacid medication.  3 days later still complained.  Went to a gastroenterologists.  They did an endoscopy and discovered 3 ulcers 1cm to 1.5 cm.  They were deep and had raised edges and were located in the distal esophagus.  They said they could be pill induced, cmv, hsv, or hiv caused.  I was recently taking supliments at night with little water(GABA, lysiene, and arginine)and they were fairly large pills.   Biopsy was taken, no infection ruling our cmv or hsv.  But my doctor still thinks i need an hiv test to rule it out.  Well I had one just 3 months ago and it was negative.  Could this be caused by a recent acute HIV infection and if so why havent i developed any of the more common symptoms like fever, rash, etc.  Also to note, the ulcers are healing and im not on any corticosteroids.  They healed after around 5-7 days with only using antacids and a liquid called carafate.  But of course having my gastroenterologist telling me to get tested is a concern.  One of my doctors tell me it could take up to a year to potentially test positive after infection.  Im going tomorrow to get tested but of course im pretty worried as well as my girlfriend.

The fact that you are healing up essentially on your own is encouraging.

I think you will be ok

please post the results if you would
