ambien sleep walking vandalism

by nsxs2000, Jul 25, 2007 10:30PM
has anyone ever heard of people taking ambien, causing vandalism and not remembering in the morning? I am a good person that never steals and vandalizes, but recently i found i have been "tagging" and breaking windows on a local establishment and i don't recall 95% of it.

i posted earlier but it was removed (it is a disturbing subject) but please don't delete this cause i honestly need advice on making this better, preferably w/o getting arrested.

I used to take Ambien to help me sleep when traveling and didn't have any issues. However, I remember reading an article about someone else having a similar issue. You should stop taking it until you find out more.
Sleep well.

Hi - I have taken Ambien and have had total blackouts, but only when I drink. I have gone to bed and then gotten up and actually driven someplace and returned home with no recollection until someone tells me the next day. I usually seem relatively normal to those around me, but I do not remember anything.

I have heard that Ambien can cause amnesia, i.e, binge eating, sleep walking etc., but I have not experienced it UNLESS i have ingested alcohol. If you are experiencing memory loss, try another sleep med or wean yourself off completely.

Patrick Kennedy took Ambien and Phenergen (for vomiting) and then drove to the Capitol in his sleep believing he was late to vote. He crashed into a median. Kennedy admits to a drinking problem, but states that drinking wasn't involved. I tend to believe him on this. Infrequent side effects of Ambien listed include sleep eating and other odd behaviors.

I would absolutely stop taking it and see your doctor!

I recently took an ambien in the hospital to help me sleep and about a minute later I was seeing things that weren't really in the room.  I told my husband that there was another person in the room with us...can't remember exactly what person.  After that I fell asleep, don't remember anything til the next morning, the nurse told me she changed a bunch  of stuff on my IV and I didn't move at all.  I will never take another ambien again, it whacked me out bad.  I have never slept so hard in my life, and having delusions too.  I can definitely believe the stories of doing outrageous things while on this med.  The next moring I remembered seeing the person in the room and saying so to my husband, he laughed and said yes...I really did think someone was there.  Maybe it was a ghost...LOL

I think it depends on the individual. I used to travel around the globe for work and took Ambien to help me deal with the jet lag. It worked really well and I didn't have any side effects. I think, as with all medications, you need to check with your doctor and over time learn what works for you.

I have been taking Ambien on and off for the last year or two without ANY issues.  This morning my mom told me I wasn't right this morning, I didnt think anything about it.  Well later that day when my father returned home, he said its nice to have you back with us.  I asked "What do you mean?"
He sayed that when he woke up at 5:30 I was at the kitchen sink cleaning my Ionic Pro filter grid.
I do know that before I went to bed I looked at it to see how dirty it was, and decided I would wait till sometime later today.  Then my mom said that I went on the front porch behind her and I kept shinning a flashlight in her eyes, and she told me to stop.  Dad said I went out to the car looking for a bottle that I refill with soda, I took the keys, opened the car, looked, told him "DA_N its not in there"!  Dad said he did't know whether to go to work or not.  My problem is I have NEVER slept walked...  Its really scarry not remembering that your where up, or what you did during that time...
I live on a MAJOR highway, scares me to death to think I could walk out in traffic.  I told my parents IF it happens again to shake the heck outta me so we will know if its just me sleepwalking, or something else!  I also apparently took a pill on the porch this morning, mom said I looked at it, kept saying my doctors name over and over a few times, and then threw the pill out in the yard....  They said I wasn't being violent at all (which I am not a violent person at ALL) I was just not "right"...  Just seems to me that if it were the Ambien this would have happened before now, I have been on it nearly 2 years, angain, as needed....

That's really scary. Is it possible you have been doing it for 2 years but just didn't know? If you can it would be useful to have a motion sensor camera record yourself during the night. It would give you a clear idea of what is happening. My brother used to sleep walk and it was terrifying for me. I would open my eyes at night and he would be walking all around.
Hope it doesn't hapen again.

I've taken Ambien several times and had no problems.  Matter a fact, I had to switch to Lunesta because it wasn't doing anything for me.  I've had insomnia for about4 months now because to two different medical conditions.

What is the difference between Ambien and Lunesta? Do they have the same active ingredient and are what are the side effects of Lunesta?
Thanks
