Elevated Alk Phos § SGPT

by dh, May 24, 2001 12:00AM
I am a 38 y/o white male.  I am a nondrinker, nonsmoker.  I am 6'1" tall and weigh 186 lbs.  Other than a recent course of Levaquin (for tx of "walking pneumonia"), I take no prespription or OTC meds (however, I do take an antioxidant formula "I Caps"). Additionally, I was diagnosed w/ hiatal hernia approx 16 years ago.

During a brief hospital stay 10 days ago (due to the previously mentioned pulmonary condition), my physician discovered that some of my liver-related blood tests were slightly elevated.  Various other tests were performed such as GB ultrasound for possible gallstones, mono spot test, hepatitis test.  All were negative.

Liver profile and CBC repeated 5/22/01.  Results included:

SGPT - 47

Alk Phos - 175

SGOT - 29

Total Bilirubin normal

WBC 6.8

Hemoglobin - 17.6

I am not experiencing any abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or other GI symptoms.

My physician has ordered a repeat liver profile and consult w/ surgeon (presumably for further gallbladder evaluation).  Also, I recall that my alk phos level was slightly elevated in a chem-24 I had done approx. 10 years ago but no F/U was done for that.

I would appreciate your thoughts on my situation.  Thank you.
