Throat

I have been treated for GERD for a few years ie. zantec, previcid
Prylosec, etc with only fair results also watching diet and have head of bed elivated 6", in past 6 months have developed throat problrms and seem to be getting worse, I have a lot of phlem or mucus inm the throat, mostly after eating, hard caughing or clearing of the throat will expell some of it, always some left, can never get it all, some times caugh up small white pieces of something, looks & feels like small cottage cheese curds with a terrible odor, I'm horse a lot, I'm a singer and have dificulty with my voice cracking, my Dr. thinks it is alergys but various meds. such as Flonaise, Alegra, Claritin, becilomethasone have no effect, I asked my Dr. if the GERD could be causing this, and says it's possible but is very vague somewhat unconcerned about it I think I need to see a specialist but I'm on an HMO (and thats another story!)

Any info. is most appreciated

I had just had surgery because I like you had throat problems
I had polyps devopled because I smoked heavy but usually singers get the kind that I had.  I became very horse and squeaky.  The best thing to do is to see and Ear nose and Throat Doctor.

Slim, if you scroll down, I think you'll see that thraot and voice problems from gerd are fairly common.  I lost my voice for about six months.  And it only started to heal when I took nexium.  It takes a long time to heal.  You realy need your voice so If you can't get to a g.i. specialist talk to you reg doc about nexium.  I, too had coughed up the rotten gray stuff, but I never asked if it was from gerd.  Good luck. p.s also try the heartburn help. com meesage board for info
