Upper Buring Stomach Pain

by Fairy1, Apr 18, 2007 12:00AM
I had posted a question yesterday about upper burning pain and IBS. Thanks you for your response. As I said I am woried that my upper buring stomach pain whuch radiates to both sides of my back is being caused by my Pancreas or Gall bladder. Would the CT scan with contrast and Xray that I had (which showed normal) - show up Chronic Pancreatitis or a damaged or blocked duct that would cause chronic pancreatitis or alcohol induced chronic pancreatitis. I am very concerned.
Thanks for your help

Yes, the CT scan would be an appropriate test for pancreatitis or gallbladder issues.  A normal CT scan would make these possibilities less likely.  However, if there continues to be suspicion, an MRCP or endoscopic ultrasound can be done to further evaluate the pancreas.

Blood tests looking at the pancreatic enzymes as well as the liver enzymes can be considered if these organs are suspected of disease.

These options can be discussed with your GI physician.

Followup with your personal physician is essential.

I too have had the burning  in my upperstomach, radiating thru to my back, as well as my lower gi tract at times.  I have found thru trial & error that it's possibly an acid problem. I get weak feeling throughout my body & nauseated at times.  I have found Prilosec helps.  It takes a while, but at the onset of one of these "episodes"  I take it every couple of hours.  Have you thought of this?
or tried treating it for acid just to see? I'd like to know.
