Weird chest pain and breathing problems

by graciesmom, Jul 26, 2007 10:46PM
My symptoms started three months ago, and have only occured on three separate occasions. Out of know where, I get a little bit of a soar throat, a pain in my upper chest when taking a deep breath, some shortness of breath, and a hoarse cough. It almost feels like I have a chest cold, but it goes away completely after a day. My symptoms don't seem to be provoked by anything. My mother lives in the same house with me, and she told me she gets a similar feeling. She went to her doctor and he told her she may be developing asthma due to her allergies. But, I'm wondering how I could have the same thing, because I do not have allergies. Do you have any idea what this is? Could it be something in the house?

It sounds like an allergen you are both being exposed to. Allergies can develop at any time and they can be very difficult to track down. You could try moving all the soft furnishings somewhere else, vacuuming and then letting the dust settle, keeping your windows closed to keep out pollen and see if both your symptoms go away, and checking to see if you have any damp in your house that could cause mold spores. I know it sounds extreme but its one way to try to eliminate things without waiting for allergy tests. Do you both eat the same foods? Does it happen after any particular type of food? Is there a lot of vegetation where you live? If you take an antihistamine when you feel like this, do your symptoms go away?
