What is the difference between tachycardia and trigeminy?

by wunabnorm, Jul 27, 2007 12:54PM
I have very bad pvc's. I have had a 24 hr monitor put on and it recorded over 20,000 pvc's including 489 trigeminy episodes, and 89 bigeminy. also Supra ventricular ectopys. What is supra ventricualr ectopys? And what is the difference between trigeminy and tachycardia? I have like 3 pvc's in a row all throughout the day, and at night I have been getting what I think may be tachycardia. While I am sleeping, I feel what it seems to be like 8 or more pvc's in a row, but really fast. I try to wake myself up, but it takes a little while, and as soon as I do, my heart goes back to normal. Well the norm for me. I always have pvc's. reguardless. I take 37.5 mg of toprol daily, but... it stopped working after a few weeks.

Damn.that's a lot of pvcs!  3 pvcs in  a row would have shown up on the holter.you are most likely feeling PACs Sv ectopy is an early beat that starts above the  bottom chambers of the heart.  bi and tri are pvcs alternating with normal.  Have you seen an ep?  Maybe something more can be done for you.

Yes, but... the ep just says it's all stress. I refuse to believe this! I have had them for sooo long, and so many of them. I am only 24! And I mentioned to the dr. that it occurs the worst after I eat, and he said that there is no way that it's related to that. Anyhow...I think I should have a 2nd opinion.

Did your EP say that your 20,000 pvcs were caused by stress? Maybe stress can increase these a bit but I don't think you could put that many PVCs down to stress. I would have though you'd be a possible candidate for ablation although I must admit I don't know much about that procedure...just what I've read on here. I feel for you having so many. I only had about 1800 of those horrible flipflops per 24hrs. Do you feel them all?
If by 'tachycardia' you mean ventricular tachycardia this is usually defined as three or more PVCs in a row.

yes he did. And I agree. How could that many pvc's be due to stress?

Sounds crazy to me! Definitely see a different EP. You know that there is a 'heart rhythm, Ask a doctor' forum here, where you can post a question to a very understanding EP, Dr Michael McWilliams. Maybe you could get his opinion on your situation. Good luck.
