Is amitriptyline safe for people with irregular heart beat/palpitations?

by traci, Aug 31, 1999 12:00AM
My husband is currently taking Sectral (200mg twice a day)to help control his irregular heartbeat/palpitations.  He is also borderline hypertensive.  Would amitriptyline (25mg taken once before bed) be safe in treating insomnia due to depression?

Thank you for your help.

There are no significant interactions between sectral, which is a beta-blocker, and amitriptyline, which is a tricyclic antidepressant.  However, as with all new medications, he should check with his doctor first.
