Cholesterol test- - VAP

by bill, Sep 13, 1999 12:00AM
What is a VAP test? How does it differ from a standard test? When is it called for?  Does the Cleveland Clinic do it?  My total cholesterol is 165, LDL is 73,  HDL is 31, Triglycerides=360.  I have CAD and have had a  4 X CABG, one of which is blocked.  Also, have  well-controled type 2 diabetes.  55 year old male.

Could the VAP test possibly provide meaningful information?

Dear Bill,

I do not know what a VAP test is.  Can you provide additional details.

As far as your cholesterol profile, i would consider an agent to lower triglycerides ( below 200) as well as raise HDL ( to above 45).  You may consider  Niacin preparations or a resin.  I would recommend you discuss actual medications with your physician.

Please have a hemoglobin a1c checked to determin how "well"
