ventricular bigeminy

by Lisa Sharpe, Sep 16, 1999 12:00AM
I am 30 y/o Female with a past history of occasional PVC's, I am 3 months postpartum, in my 8th week of pregnancy I was noted to have a few PVC's, I have had the whole range of test, with no underlying heart condition.  I was given the medication Prevasid and dicyclomine for digestive disturbances that I have been experiencing lately, and after taking the Bentyl for three doses, I became jittery.  I was seen in the er and was told that my heart was in ventricular bigeminy and that it would subside after the Bentyl was out of my system.  What would cause this reaction?

Dear Lisa,

Medications like Bentyl may effect the conduction system of the heart and make it more prone to be irritable and therefore have bigeminy.  Try to avoid this medication in the future.

I would also recommend a baseline ECG one things settle down to make sure everything is back to normal as im sure it will be.
