Rash on face...not acne, psoriasis, or fungus..but what?

by Tonya, Jan 13, 2000 12:00AM
Hi, I have developed this rash on my chin below my mouth.  It is a cluster of small red bumbs and slightly itchy at times.  Under magnification the bumps tend to look like minute blisters.  My daughter had recently had something a little similiar to this (but hers was more scaly..mine is not) and the dermatologist prescribed a combo of Nizoral and Westcort.  It cleared hers up fine..so I gave it a shot...nothing.  It tends to clear up and just when I think it's gone, it will pop back up in the same general area, but not the exact spot.  I have changed everything I use on my face, from cosmetics, to skin care..and it still happens.  It does not resemble acne at all..I don't know what it resembles!  Help me if you can!!!  Thanks.

Tonya:

Hard to say with complete certainty, but it sounds like a condition called perioral dermatitis.  This happens near the mouth in young women, and consists of little pimples or under-the-skin bumps.  They aren’t caused by anything in particular, and respond to topical or oral antibiotics given for a few weeks.  Have a doctor look at them and see. But don’t pick ‘em!

Best.

Hi,

I have noticed a discoloration on the bridge of my nose as well as on my nose. Could this be related to menopause or a reaction from the metal from my glasses?

I am a black female.  This is a new condition that started about 2 and a half months ago.  It started off as small red bumps under the skin on my neck, shoulder, and under the chin.  As the bumps come to the surface, they start drying and itching and become dark blotches, increasing in size.  Do you have any idea of what this might be?  Please e-mail me.  ***@****  at you earliest convenience.

I had Laser Surgery last June and after one month it looked great.  After that I have had a constant rash on my face which moves and it has moved to my upper body.  Any suggestions?

My son has psoriasis all over body and has recently broke

out with it on his face. He has tried so many creams, with

nothing helping on face. We need help immediately. Has it

under and finds it very sore, also around the chin and mouth

area.

Hello, My 22year old daughter seems to have a similar rash, like yours just on her face. The doctors are not very helpful and presribed steroid cream which made it sting so much it was instantly washed off! I do hope yours is better and if so, perhaps you would kindly tell me what helped. Thankyou. Please e.mail me at www.craggantoul.com
