pigmentatio

I have a patient who recently came into our phlebology practice and we noticed at where the incision was made for the phlebectomy

what appears to be what is best described as a birth mark. the patient states that it appeared post surgery although new marks are starting to appear over some of the new bulging veins on lwr legs, the lesions are flat, oblong, brown, with no erythematous boarders. and are painless please give me an idea on how to approach this, pre surgical pics and post surgical pics are available.

thanks

Chris:

Your question is intriguing, but I'm afraid your description does not remind me of anything.  I can't think of what surgical scars would produce which would would look like birthmarks.  I suggest you have your patient consult a dermatologist for examination, possible biopsy, etc.

Best.
