Pyoderma Gangrenosum

by Roger T, Sep 08, 2002 12:00AM
I have ulcerative colitis, and got a big pyoderma gangrenosun about 1 1/2 years ago. Prednisone did not help, and my dermatologist uses cyclosporine to treat it. Currently 500 mg/ day. As long as i take this, the thing doen not open back up, but as soon as i cut back, it comes back with a vengence. This has happened 3 times now. I take sandamune cyclosporine. Is there any other treatmant that might help? He says it should nave cleared up long ago but it will not. Removal of the colon is an option, but no guarantee this will fix it. Any thoughts? Is there any other medications or ointments to try? Thanks.

I have little experience treating your uncommon condition, but have had some success injecting cortisone into ulcers of this kind.  Perhaps your dermatologist might consider adding this therapy, as an adjunt to what you're already on.

Best.
