Groin rash w pinples on thigh

by user99, Nov 29, 2003 12:00AM
Four weeks ago I noticed a rash on my groin below my scrotum. It has gradually gotten worse and i have used hydrocrisone cream and talc with no effect. The rash pretty much stays away from my penis and scrotum, is focused mainly below my scrotum and spreads sporadically down my thigh and a little around my anus. On my thigh the rash is more like pimples and sometimes the pimples become elevated with a small light colored area in the middle of it which might be some kind of puss. The elevated pimples hurt a little when they rub against my clothing. I notced the pimples elevating more since I started using Tinactin and now Lamisil AT for Jock itch. The itch seems to be more intense now that I have been using the anti fungal medications. I have not seen a doctor yet but will very soon if the Lamisil doesnt show any signs of clearing up. A few of the pimples do seem to be dryed up and are healing since I started using the tinactin and now the lamisil. I have never had jock itch or any rash like this before. I am very sexually active with one partner who has no signs of any problems.

Thanks in advance

This sounds  more like folliculitis from friction and heat than fungus.  I would stop all treatment other than powder and moisture lotion, avoid rubbing or scratching the bumps with your fingers, and seeing a doctor for definitive diagnosis.  You may not even have to treat this, since if it is folliculitis, it isn't significant or catchy, and will over time just go away.

Take care.

Thanks for the reply Dr Rockoff. Using Lamasil AT and either Gold Bond Powder or Baby Powder has started healing my problem. The pimple areas are dry and flat now and though darker seem to be clearing up. The rash under my scrotum has also started drying up. I will probably continue with the lamisil at and powder for 2 more days and then just use the powder until it is gone completely.
