Ashy White Hands

by Ingnik, Jan 26, 2006 12:00AM
I am African American.

The inside of my hands and more and more also the outside develop a white ashy surface.

Also the nail tips are turning whitish.

I work in healthcare wearing Latex and powdered gloves.

I tried Cetaphi, Betamethasone Dipropionate, and currently Amlactin 12%, to no avail.

Please advise nature of ailment and remedy.

Thank you, Doctor.

This just sounds like dehydration.  I suggest avoiding excessive washing, using the mildest soap available, applying a moisture lotion after each wash, and putting on Aquaphor ointment (over-the-counter) at night.  Next time you see a doctor, ask him or her to have a look.

Take care.

when did this start to develop?  Is there any skin thickening or just dry skin?  Is there any pruritis? Are there any blisters that form?
