Broken 'small' blood vessel on face?

by sumoi, Jun 14, 2006 12:00AM
My daughter is only one yrs old. One day, when i picked her up at babysitter and i saw many tiny red marks around and below her EYES on her face. i asked my babysitter abt what had happen to her but she didnt notice at first then she replied nothing happen, said she's only crying for a short while when the babysitter's busy on cooking. We didnt see any crying symtom, no red eyes and etc. i seeked for two child specialists abt this matter, the ans is when only baby's having a heavier crying, cough, vomiting and under a pressure. My questions to Dr Rockoff are: I need more details abt the causes to this kind of so called "tiny/small" blood vessel broken? Is it a serious/major or just a minor thing which is always happen? because my friends and relatives never heard and faced this kind of thing, only me. So in the future will she get broken again easily? Any worst thing will happen in the future? Any side effect? Some people explains that its maybe baby's skin is still soft like tofu, and thats why it gets broken easily.? Any good advice from you? Pls tell more abt this to me because i dont know whatelse to ask. I am very afraid indeed, because i never know what happen to my daughter, she is a happy girl but she is still cant talk and babies are all very innocent. She stayed with this babysitter for six months only. The red marks dissappeared after six to seven days and her skin is a little bit rough. Dr., do u have any idea what happen? the red marks are near the eyes and spread some on the face. One more questions bothers me, how can we tell the baby like or dislike the babysitter, any adnormal behaviour will occurs? Is there any existing tricks to test the preferance of the baby's like and dislike? Any hints from baby's? Finally, hope to hear from you soon.  Thank you for much.

I don't think you have anything to worry about.  When babies strain (crying, coughing, passing a bowel movement), they can break some small blood vessels on the face.  This means nothing, and doesn't say anything about problems later in life.  If it happens again, show your pediatrician, who can reassure you in person.

Best.
