Spitz Nevus/Acne

by Tiffles, Nov 28, 2006 12:00AM
I actually have a couple brief questions concerning 2 daughters:

1.  What exactly is a Spitz Nevus and should I be concerned?  My daughter just had one removed and when I looked it up on the internet, the info was quite frightening.  Should she be evaluated by a dermatologist?

2.  Do you think Adderal and acne could be related?  My adult daughter has been taking it for some time now, and what was beautiful skin is now very broken out.  It listed some skin conditions in the side effects but not acne.  Just curious on your thoughts.

1.  A Spitz nevus is a mole that looks much more frightening under the microscope than it really is.  Having said that, I recommend that you see a dermatologist and have the pathology slides reviewed by a dermatopathologist.  Some feel that it's best to take a bit of extra tissue as a safeguard against local recurrence.  That depends on how the slide is read, so another opinion is what I'd get.

2.  Not that I'm aware of.  Acne comes and goes from age 10 to 40.  It should be straightforward to treat even if Adderall is playing some minor role.

Best.
