small pimples on lips

by wa123, Apr 15, 2007 12:00AM
I am 32 years old and was recently involved with someone with HPV.  I did not find out he had HPV until after we had stopped seeing each other.  As we were sexually active, I am very concerned I have contracted this virus.  I have not seen any indications of genital warts but I have noticed extremely small pimple like bumps on my lips (in the corners of my mouth).  From what I have read online, HPV warts are typically cauliflower like in shape.  Mine are definitely not like this.  Does this sound like HPV?  Or is this some other skin problem like acne? What do you suggest to treat this problem? Thank you for your help.

No, it doesn't sound like HPV.  It sounds like Fordyce's condition, where somewhat yellowish oil glands can be seen against the pink background of the lips.  I suggest you get yourself examined by a dermatologist, who can tell you for sure what these bumps are, and that you have regular Gyn exams, with Pap smears, which of course you should have anyway.  So many people have or have had HPV that it's very difficult to avoid contact with the virus sooner or later.  But nothing you've told me makes that diagnosis likely as of now.

Best.
