Oh My God!! White Spot near Eye and Lip

by Sohail24, May 02, 2007 12:00AM
Dr. I need HELP! I had a small spot near my left eye 4 months ago. Back then it was the size of a grain. Every one told me it will go away. But today it's nearly the size of a QUARTER!! I feel very unconfident and don't feel like going out any more because of it as all my friends make fun of me. By the way, I am 23.

So it started off as the size of a grain approximately 1/2 inch away from the corner of the eye and now the white pot has spread till quarter of my eye lid. I also do see a white spot line on the lower part of my lower lip. The same white spots on my upper lip too. The spots are lighter then my actual skin color. I am brown skin and my spot is white.

No, I don't feel any physical pain or scratchiness or burning sensation on the white spot. The skin is smooth but THAT IS NOT MY SKIN COLOR!! Please make it go away!

1) How Can I make the White Spot near eye and on lips go away? What is the treatment that I should follow? Medications or Creams or lotions or ...help please!
2) Will the White spot keep on expanding? Will it cover all my face?
3) A friend of mine told me to buy Civant cream (http://www.civantskincare.com) but I want to know what is the professional Doctors recommendation? Will this cream help or is it just a beauty product?

You most likely have vitiligo.  This is a common skin problem of unknown cause, which results in patches of lost pigment.  It has no medical implications in most cases but it does have cosmetic ones.  There is treatment available, especially for the face.  You need to see a skin doctor, who can prescribe one of these, such as a potent cortisone cream or a non-steroid called Protopic (tacrolimus.)  Non-prescription products are of no help (other than cover-up creams.)

Best.
