Question about discoloration

Hi, I have discoloratio from my testicles ane between my butt cheeks.  It is a darker brown color than my natural skin tone.  Is this a fungus or some type of infection?  Can anything be done to get rid of it.

Genital area skin is often darker than skin elsewhere; this is probably a normal, as long as there's no redness, itching, pain, or flaking of the skin.  But you might want to post the same question on the MedHelp dermatology forum and see what Dr. Rockoff has to say.

I also have a discoloration of the penis and the surrounding genital area. About 6 or 7 years ago, a spot about 3 inches in diameter appeared on the upper inside groin. This spot was itchy, exhibited a dryness of the skin and had a reddish tinge around the outer parimeter. It also seemed to weep, but was not an open wound. After a week or so it went away. Upon STD testing via the "stick method", as well as blood work, nothing was discovered. The other day, this spot reacurred, in the same location as it was the previos time. I will be taking a digital picture of the area this time before it dissapears and I am still left to wonder what I possibly have.

Any input is much appreciated.

Thanks in advance

I'm not the doctor, but it sounds like herpes to me. I don't think herpes blood tests were very accurate until fairly recently, so the results of your earlier bloodwork probably shouldn't be trusted. Also, cultures aren't always accurate, especially if you'd already had the lesion for a couple of days. I'd go back to your doctor and ask for a HerpeSelect blood test - and of course it would be best to see him/her while you still have this lesion.
